Tuesday 1st August 2000 The sequal to what is widely regarded as the best custom single player episode for Half-Life (just check out our poll results from yesterday!) has finally arrived - They Hunger 2. Can it match the original? Check out our review below...
-They Hunger 2: Rest In Pieces: Pure brilliance
No e-mail asking when TH2 is available for download please (read the note in the review), and don't forget to vote in the new poll.
Monday 31st July 2000 Another brief update today - just to say that we have a new poll. Our sister site Ghoul Reviews recently ran a poll asking the question "what is the best first person shooter?". Soldier of Fortune came out on top, beating HL by some 4%... so, we're going to see what our readers think when faced with the same question. Our beloved Half-Life is up against some fierce competition, Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, Daikatana and of course, Soldier of Fortune. So get voting :-)
In our last poll we asked the question "what is the best custom SP episode for HL?". Unsurprisingly, Neil Manke's "They Hunger", has won... just wait till you play the sequal is all I have to say. Another single player episode by Neil Manke, USS Darkstar, came second incidentally. Heres the previous results in full...
What is the best SP episode?
Redemption (86) 10%
They Hunger (428) 53%
USS Darkstar (215) 27%
Other (66) 8%
Total: 795 votes.
Saturday 29th July 2000 FalleN has whipped up a review of another decent DM map that we'd certainly recommend you take a look at, Deja_Vu_2 by [DRS]Orpheus.
-Deja_Vu_2: Recommended
Nothing else for now, except to say that I'll be updating with a new poll in the next few days.
Tuesday 25th July 2000 After the mass birthday update yesterday, just a little one today. In response to the release of a new version of Gustavo's "Leadworks" I've revised that review, and we also have another one of Jake's four hour 'joke maps' available for download - Emu burgers.
-Leadworks: Alternative version released
-Emu burgers: One of Jake's couple of hour jobs
If you missed our birthday update, then be sure to check it out below! Oh and I've added a section showing the previous poll results to the site as well.
Monday 24th July 2000 Welcome to the now one year old HKUK! Yep, thats right its this sites first birthday... and what do we have to celebrate? Why some reviews of course. Not only that though we also have some exclusive new They Hunger 2 screenshots (six of em'), the latest version of Jake's CS map for testing, AND we are releasing the official HKUK model for HL (by Jubilee, with help from Jake). Phew! Check it all out below...
-Catharis: Erm... somewhat radical lighting
-Ethel the Frog: Nice name, shame about the map
-Hippodrome: Pick of the bunch
-Holiday: Pretty dire
Now I am pleased to announce the release of the official HKUK Half-Life model, click the image below to download it. It was made mostly by Jubilee, with a little skinning assistance by Jake.
Now onto Jake's CS map... click the image below to download and bare in mind that Jake is looking for people to test it/for test servers. So be sure to contact him if you can help out.
Well thats it, the first year done with... now for the second :-)
