WHITEWATER UPDATE SENATE VOTES FOR SPECIAL WHITEWATER COMMITTEE The Senate last week voted to create a special Whitewater Committee to look into the issues that were unresolved after last year's hearings. Hearings are scheduled to start in June or July, and should be completed by February of next year. The resolution (reprinted in the Information section of this issue) specifically mentions most of the issues that have been raised in the Washington Weekly over the last year: Removal of papers from Foster's office, Madison Guarantee Savings and Loan, loans from David Hale's Capital Management Services, ADFA, interference with RTC investigation, and the funding of the 1990 gubernatorial campaign. It cannot be excluded that the investigation of ADFA will lead the Committee into the Mena operation, the proceeds of which allegedly where laundered through ADFA. The resolution does not specifically mention an investigation of the death of White House aide Vince Foster, but during the debate on the resolution (reprinted in the Information section of this issue) Committee Chairman D'Amato (R-NY) responded to an inquiry from Senator Faircloth (R-NC) that this issue can be included as well. Senator Faircloth also expressed his intention to investigate the commodities futures trades by the First Lady. HOUSE EXPECTS FIVE MORE INDICTMENTS Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-CA) said in a speech in Nashua, New Hampshire that he had talked to House Banking Committee Chairman Leach, and learned that there are about five more indictments to come in the Whitewater scandal in addition to the five already indicted. All of them having pled guilty, they are now singing like John Dean did during Watergate. Dornan also said that he does not expect Clinton to run again.
