UEFA have announced that Spaniard Antonio Lopez Nieto will referee the 2000 UEFA Cup Final.
Antonio Lopez Nieto
Gunners fans with exceptionally good memories will recall that Nieto presided over Arsenal's 2-1 win over Panathinaikos at Wembley in our 1998 Champions League campaign, and was also in charge of Arsenal's 3-2 2nd leg away defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach in our 1996 UEFA Cup 1st round exit.
The 42-year-old whistler is no stranger to big European games as he refereed Leeds' home clash with Spartak Moscow in the UEFA Cup in December and was also in charge of Manchester United's Champions League clash with Juventus in 1997.
Both the referee's assistants and the fourth official are from Spain, they are:
Fernando TRESACO GRACIA
Victoriano GIRALDEZ CARRASCO
