A Few Words from the Creator...

I'm astonished and pleased that Bernice lives on. As an author, it gives you the weird feeling that whatever happens to you doesn't matter anymore, because your character still prospers. It's probably a bit like being a Dad. My daughter is in good company, she seems to be doing well, and her friends are all very kind. Big Finish are keeping her in the style to which she's accustomed.

- Paul Cornell

A New Beginning...

Welcome back to the world of Professor Bernice Summerfield after, well, a lengthy break between semesters!

A lot has happened to Benny recently. She's faced some fairly arduous foes, lost her ex-hubby to an alternate dimension, seen her adopted world disintegrate - physically as well as metaphorically - beneath her and just as she was admiring the grey hairs (well, she claims to have been admiring - with hindsight, we're not sure we believe her) she got aged regressively by about six years.

Which made her happy as a sandboy.

And so, we now prepare to pick up the story of her life, and those around her, some time later- at the dawn of the twenty-seventh century in fact. Benny has now set up home on The Braxiatel Collection, a small planetoid that her old chum and fellow academic Irving Braxiatel has created to house what is, probably, the biggest and best collection of... well things that people with money collect, in the galaxy. Scholars, researchers and interested parties the cosmos over flock to The Braxiatel Collection to see the art, literature, history and science on display there.

Or they will, when Irving gets around to actually finishing it.

Benny has recently kindly allowed Big Finish Productions exclusive access to her diaries, mementos and Wolsey's litter-tray (we haven't quite worked out why we need the latter, but hopefully that'll be revealed soon) so that we can create a whole new series of full-length novels and audio dramas chronicling her exploits. Amazingly enough, she hasn't asked us to edit out the booze, mistakes, sex and embarrassing secrets that embellish her extravagant lifestyle so much.

Which is fine by us we just want to tell rollicking, thrilling, fun and fantastical inter-galactic adventure stories. She seems cool with that.

Check out the details of the new (and old) range of audio dramas and novels by clicking on titles in the sideabars. And, to find out more about Benny's Friends and Colleagues or about the Braxiatel Collection itself, hit our Articles and Features page.

Please note though, that this mailing list is separate from the Big Finish: Doctor Who mailing list and applies only to this site and Bernice Summerfield.

The Latest News...

UPDATE ON
"DRAGONS' WRATH"
19 August, 2000

Big Finish Productions would like to apologise to everyone who has waited so patiently for the final audio in our first 'Season' of Benny audio dramas, Dragons' Wrath, based on the novel by Justin Richards. As some of you may be aware from information on our Doctor Who webpage, Dragons Wrath fell victim to a number of post-production difficulties and delays beyond or control. This situation has been rectified and right now the final tweaks to the edit and sound design are being made and we anticipate the music tracks being laid down over the next couple of weeks. All being well, Dragons' Wrath will finally see release during September. Because of the alarming delay, we've also opted to bring the packaging into line with our newest Benny ranges and we will have a final cover up on these pages soon.

LISA BOWERMAN
19 August, 2000

Fans of Lisa Bowerman's excellent portrayal of Benny in our earlier audio drama adaptations of the Virgin novels will be pleased to know that she will continue to play the part in our new releases. Whereas the older CDs were adapted from the Virgin novels, all our new audios, starting with The Secret of Cassandra, will be brand new and specially written for the audio medium adventures.

BACK FOR GOOD
19 August, 2000

Once again Big Finish Productions apologise for the delay in getting Benny back up to speed, but rest assured, now she is back and here to stay.
