FCWW vs Staffa

Screehshots omitted for faster loading, sorry atsq. - Helicon

Since I first met, played and beat Staffa, He has watched me on numerous ocassions and learnt how to adopt parts of my technique into a super killer one that "might" now actually be more effective than mine... hehehe... Most of our recent games have gone his way, partially due to his awesome skill and talent but also partially because I am no longer as good as I used to be...

Anyways, I decided that since he is so powerful now, watching him might be a good idea since I am trying to recover my skills and become better than I ever was. I was right... Staffa's strat had plenty to offer me... His peons were almost never idle... which is kinda freakish but expected.

Well, praises aside, the game I watched where he took on FCWW was very impressive... aided by the fact that he had over 20 shore fishes within one or two screens away (he ended up only needing about 10 or so...)

Staffa finds two shore fishes very near his TC (5 tiles) and decides to make a PIT for them!! Very surprising maneuver that is fairly well documented in Celestial Dawn's "crappy bronzing" guide. he uses 3 peons for food and then cuts down enough trees to make his pit in record time. There are also fishes at his wood pit (if i recall correctly... it has been a long time since that game)... his econ is going fine and before his 12th peon he already has 2 peon explorers...

Report from Sugeren tells me that FCWW has not got fish yet and that his spot is not all that great...

as food pours in... another fish pit is then built with about 5 or so fishes near it... lots of peons on fish... 500 food is reached but no second stone building around so a quick barracks is built and staffa starts tooling.

meanwhile, a scout peon is hidden nearby FCWW's TC at a map edge... and a granary is built for the initial berries near Staffas TC... about 12 men are switched to wood since staffa had tonnes and tonnes of food poured in from the shore fishers.

Tool is hit and staffa builds 3 things immediately... an archery range at FCWW's base and an archery at his own base nearby the woodmen... meanwhile FCWW builds an archery on a nearby hill to Staffa's TC. Staffa elects not to wall and then scouting with bowmen finds a second archery being built on the hill... staffa's bowmen are sent to the hill to terminate the building peon as well as any enemy bowmen. At this stage FCWW, who has since shifted his wood base behind some walls, starts building some bowmen on the hill from his one range that is finished... however they are easily dispatched by Staffa's bowmen who are already established on the hill.

Staffa's bowmen at FCWW's base has since swept thru the area around FCWW's TC and find it abandoned... backed by bowmen, staffa's explorer peon begins walling up the TC...
As both parties bronze (around the same time)... Staffa with the bigger economy starts pumping out the CAs and starts raiding FCWW with a compact army... Unfortunately for FCWW, he left a big gaping hole in one of the forest sections which he did not see so Staffa's army waltzes right in and it becomes open season on FCWW peons. After that it was all over... Staffa's unwalled base was never really threatened and it was fairly one sided thanx partially to the generous food serving that Staffa got at the start.

Things that should be noted is the walling of the TC... it works and it is fairlt easy to do... it wastes 200 wood for the enemy and this is enuf to give u the edge.

Staffa also shows us that good strong military defense at base can be just as effective (if not more so) than walling up.

NOTE : I was so involved with the game that I only took screenshots after half the game was over... I will try to remember better in the future. We have since played some more interesting games but i was too involved to remember to take shots of those games...
the next report will come the next time my memory doesnt fail...

hehehe... comments?
