| Mariano Rivera extended his postseason scoreless streak to 30 2/3 innings. |
| "This knock about 'buying' a team is a tired line, I agree. It's not like all the other teams rent theirs ... well, except for the '97 Marlins. Selling tickets makes that money available, and the Yankees do it on the road too, meaning that they make money for these same teams that cry foul. The Yankees are the Tiger Woods of baseball. No one knows how to beat them, but they can't argue how much the sport needs them, love them or hate them." -- fuzz10340 Message board | Post |

| | | | "The changing of the guard? Not this year. While the A's might be taking a page out of the Yankees' notebook with their patient ways, they came up just a bit short this October, despite twice beating Roger Clemens and outscoring the Yanks 23-19 in the series. And, as usual, Mariano Rivera's defenses proved impregnable in October; the Yankees won three games, Rivera saved three games, and once again we see how important closers can be at this time of the year. But Rivera's not the only hero in pinstripes. The Yankees had every excuse to lose, especially after their season-ending slump, yet once again they're on the road to the World Series."
