The producer of Rommel's Enigma, Mr. Charles Proser, tells us that "the same secrets that made Rommel the 'Desert Fox' also led to his defeat: broken codes and deception. This the story of Rommel's Enigma."
Show Producer Charles Proser works on his script in a Cairo, Egypt, hotel room (click on image for a larger copy).
Mr. Proser, who also produced
The Ultra Enigma episode for this series, discovered a notable parallel while producing this show. "The code generated by the German Enigma ciphering machine was broken by the British at Bletchley Park. It was this feat that allowed the British to cut Rommel's supply line thousands of miles away." "Another interesting thing I discovered while producing this show was that Jasper Maskelyne, the "War Magician," produced battlefield magic to help win the Battle of
El Alamein." | ||||||||||||||||||||
Mr. Proser gathered interviews and firsthand accounts from all over the world for this episode. Interviews were filmed in London, Bletchley Park, and Cambridge in the United Kingdom, Berlin in Germany, Cairo in Egypt, and in the city of Valletta on the beautiful island nation of Malta. Research materials were pulled from the Imperial War Museum in London and the National Cryptologic Museum.
