Temperate and Boreal Forests and Protected Areas

Forests are ecosystems dominated by trees (woody plants with a single
stem, or phanerophytes) with a canopy cover > 30%. An additional category,
'Sparse trees and parkland', includes areas with a canopy cover of 10
- 30% so that the maps encompass FAO's FRA definition of forest cover.
