Myrtle Beach Demographics

The Myrtle Beach area, also known as South Carolina's Grand Strand, is considered one of the nation's top vacation destinations, with over 13.5 million visitors in 1999. The increasing number of entertainment attractions, live music theaters, shopping centers, outlet malls and golf courses attracts visitors throughout the year.

Myrtle Beach has been ranked the number one favorite beach destination by tour operators across the nation and by BYWAYS magazine. American Demographics ranked Myrtle Beach the second fastest growing metro area in both projected annual population growth and projected employment growth from 1995-2005.

Forbes Magazine recently ranked various cities as the best places to live in the United States. The four SC cities are listed below in their ranking order:
41 - Columbia
55 - Myrtle Beach
67 - Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson
114 - Charleston/North Charleston

Myrtle Beach was the second hottest housing market in the United States in June, 2000.
According to a study by The Myers Group, a national Real Estate Cosulting firm and parent of the U.S. Housing Market Reports, Myrtle Beach was second to only Naples, FL.

Myrtle Beach is listed as one of "America's 100 Best Places To Retire" in a recently published book by the same name from the editors of Where To Retire Magazine.
