They cover the waterfront
Nowadays, Toronto's waterfront marks the end of the city. Two hundred years ago, it marked the beginning of the city.
Indeed, Toronto owes its very existence to its position on the north shore of Lake Ontario. The English, and before them the French, settled here because of its value as a natural harbour and its proximity to the mouths of several rivers that flowed down from the hinterland.
