Highlander, Tipper and YOU
HIGHLANDER TIPPER CAMPAIGN CALL
March 25, 2000
Because Tipper Gore has made mental health her special issue, and
because she has shown through numerous public activities -- including
the White House conference in June 1999 -- that she does not respect our
right to speak for ourselves, we have decided that we will demonstrate
at her public appearances to make clear that millions of American
citizens labeled with "mental illness" and our supporters will
not tolerate being marginalized, scapegoated, demonized and subjected to
increasing amounts of forcible treatment.
As an initial sign of acknowledging our concerns, we ask Tipper Gore
to affirm the first core principle of the President's National Council
on Disability Report, "Forced drugging and inpatient and outpatient
commitment should be viewed as inherently suspect, because they are
incompatible with the principle of self-determination." Where does
Tipper Gore stand on this? We ask everyone who supports human rights in
the "mental health" system to join us.
What can you do?
