More "Granny Square" Fashions, No. 7703, Boye Needle Company, (uk date)

No size or gauge is given in this pattern. You could use any type granny square for this poncho - just make one of the squares below to give you "your gauge".

This looks like about 1970 (???) but no date is given in the pattern leaflet.  ENJOY!

MATERIALS:

  • BOYE Crochet Hook, Size I
  • 4 Ply Knitting Worsted Type Yarn:
          Salmon: 8 oz
          Off-White: 8 oz
          Black: 8 oz

Squares: Make 42

___With Salmon yarn, Ch 3, join with sl st to form ring.

___Round 1: Ch 3, 3 dc in center of ring, * Ch 2, 4 dc in center of ring. Repeat from * twice more and end Ch 2. Join with sl st to top of Ch 3. Fasten off.

___Round 2: With Off-White yarn, attach to any Ch 3 space. Ch 3, 2 dc in space, * Ch 1, Sk 4 dc, work 3 dc, Ch 2 and 3 dc in next space. Repeat from * twice more, Ch 1, Sk 4 dc, 3 dc in same space as first Ch 3, Ch 2, join with sl st to top of Ch 3. Fasten off.

___Round 3: With Salmon yarn, attach to any corner. Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, * Ch 1, Sk 3 dc, 4 dc in next space, Ch 1, 3 dc, Ch 2 and 3 dc in corner. Repeat from * twice more and end Ch 1, Sk 3 dc, 4 dc in next space, Ch 1, 3 dc in same space as first Ch 3, Ch 2. Join with a sl st top of first Ch 3. Fasten off.

___Rounds 4 and 5: With Off-White yarn, work around in sc, working 3 sc in each corner space as you turn. Fasten off.

Assemble as per illustration below. Sl st "X" to "X"

___Neckline: Row 1: With Black yarn, join at seam on neck. * Ch 1, 1 sc in st. Repeat from * around, holding in to fit. Join with a sl st.

___Row 2: * Ch 1, 1 sc in ch 1 space. Repeat from * around, decreasing at corners (to decrease: Holding back on hook the last loop of each sc, sc in 2nd sc, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook). Repeat Row 2 for 3 more rows. Join with sl st. Fasten off.

___Join yarn at lower edge, * Ch 2, skip 1/2 inch, 1 sc in st. Repeat from * around. Join. Fasten off.

___Fringe: Using 3 14-inch strands, rotating colors, put fringe in each space. To make fringe. Cut strands as directed. Fold in half and draw fold through edge, then draw through loop and tighten. Trim evenly when completed.
