Part 5 - THE FLOOD

It must have been very impressive to Noah and his relatives when they went out of the ark. They were the only survivors of a gigantic disaster. For a year they were living in their boat and when they came out, the world was empty.

As impressive is the Chinese character for "boat": it exactly tells what happened during the flood. The character is built from three signs: 1) a vessel, 2) eight and 3) people. Eight people in a vessel makes a boat. Why eight? Eight is representing the eight people of the old world surviving the deluge. Noah and his wife, and his three sons with their wives (Genesis 6:18, 7:7).
Character for boat
And what about all the other people that lived in Noah's days? They drowned because they didn't want to listen to the warning of Noah. They put their hands together and united as one people against the word of God (Genesis 6:5, 2 Peter 2:5). And they drowned.

The Chinese character for "to drown" is telling this. It is build from several other charaters. The first one is "all" or "united". "United" is made from three signs: 1) man, 2) one and 3) mouth or person. So this says that all men are one. One in speech, one in thinking, one in acting.

Character for united, all
A second part of "to drown" is "hands joined". Together with "united" this makes "to cover over".
Character for to cover over
Finally water is brought to this sign and together they now make "to drown": water is covering over all.
Character for to drown, drowning
