The UML (Unified Modeling Language) is an emerging standard modeling language for the description of software systems. UML is being accepted by the software industry as a significant step forward. However, there are still many open issues and ways for improvement, as well as many possible directions to put the notation to work.

The goal of <<UML>>'98 is to provide a forum where to expose open questions in research, practice and education, and to foster discussions between researchers, practitioners, and instructors. The working language of the workshop is English.
