matchbox twenty Mad Season
Atlanta-based supercharged rock quintet's second album. Features Santana's singing partner

Having sold over 14 million copies (mainly in the US) of their 1996 debut Yourself Or Someone Like You, matchbox twenty are already gearing up to become America's latest pop/rock monster. The follow-up is an equally passionate, turbulent affair, sounding, oddly, like a cross between Foreigner and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Full-throated vocalist Rob Thomas (of Santana's Supernatural fame) pens most of the material, from the bluesy, quintessentially American FM radio track Last Beautiful Girl to the coolly macho Rest Stop. There are some good songs here, touched by Southern funkiness, but somewhat weighed down with a production that includes everything (horns, driving percussion, orchestration) bar the kitchen sink. Still, this could be the one to break them outside the US.

Track List:
1. Angry
2. Black & White People
3. Crutch
4. Last Beautiful Girl
5. If You're Gone
6. Mad Season
7. Rest Stop
8. The Burn
9. Bent
10. Bed Of Lies
11. Leave
12. Stop
13. You Won't Be Mine

July 2000
