Scrapping of voter's ID questioned
QUEZON CITY, (ABS-CBN) -- Officials of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) questioned Chairperson Harriet Demetriou's decision to suspend the implementation of the 6.5 billion peso computerized voter identification system.
In a joint statement, Commissioners Julio Desamito, Luzviminda Tancangcoand Ralph Lantion said that the COMELEC could still implement the program with the proper representation of the government agency concerned.
They stressed that legal and finacial issues are are not enough to declare the program null and void.
Earlier, Demetriou sent President Estrada a letter scrapping the project due to financial constraints.
