SIZES:
Small (6): Body Chest Size: 24 inches
    Actual Crocheting Measurements width & length of each strip:  13.5 x 23
Medium (8-10): Body Chest Size: 26-28 inches
    Actual Crocheting Measurements width & length of each strip:  15 x 25
Large (12): Body Chest Size: 30
    Actual Crocheting Measurements width & length of each strip:  16 x 16

Directions are given for Small size. Changes for Medium and Large sizes are in brackets [].

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
• COATS & CLARK Red Heart Worsted Hand Knitting Yarn, Art. E.267, 4-ply
   (Ready to Use Pull-Out Skeins):
        11 [12, 13] oz. of No. 741 Bright Pink
        4 [5, 6] oz. of No. 246 Sea Coral
        3 [3, 4] oz. of No. 255 Burnt Orange
• Crochet Hook, Size H

GAUGE:  Be sure to check your gauge before starting article. Use any size hook that will obtain the stitch gauge above.
3 sts = 1"; 1 Stripe Pattern - 5 rows = 3"
(NOTE: You can use any yarn/thread/hook as long as you crochet to gauge.)

NOTE: PONCHO IS WORKED IN 2 STRIPS.

___STRIP A: Starting at narrow edge with Pink, ch 41 [46, 49].

___Foundation row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 40 [45, 48] sc. Ch 1, turn.

___Next row: With Pink, sc in each sc across. Ch 3, turn.

___Now work in stripe pattern: Row 1: With Pink, dc in next sc and in each sc across. Break off Pink, attach Coral. Ch 3, turn.

___Row 2: With Coral, dc in next dc and in each dc across, dc in top of ch-3. Break off Coral, attach Orange. Ch 3, turn.

___Row 3: With Orange, repeat Row 2. Break off Orange, attach Coral. Ch 3, turn.

___Row 4: Repeat Row 2. Break off Coral, attach Pink. Ch 1, turn.

___Row 5: With Pink, sc in each dc across, sc in top of ch-3. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat Rows 1-5 for stripe pattern until total length is 23" [25", 26"]. Mark last row for seam edge. Weave in ends.

___STRIP B: Work same as Strip A.

Do not remove markers. Pin pieces to measurements, dampen and leave to dry. Sew marked edge of Strip A to equal number of inches on side edge of Strip B. For Second Seam, sew marked edge of Strip B to side edge of Strip A. Remove markers.

___Outer Edging: Rnd 1: With right side facing, attach Pink to any outer corner st, ch 1, * make 3 sc in corner st, sc evenly along edge to next corner st. Repeat from * around entire edge. Join with sl st to first sc. Break off and fasten.

___Neck Edging: With right side facing, attach Pink to seam at neck edge.

___Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same place, sc evenly around. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten.

___Hood: Starting at lower edge with Pink, ch 53 [57, 57].

___Foundation row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - 52 [56, 56] sc. Ch 3, turn.

___Row 1 (right side): Dc in next sc and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

___Row 2: Sc in each dc across, sc in top of ch-3. Ch 3, turn. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 alternately for pattern until total length is 6" [6.5", 6.5"], end with Row 1. Ch 1, turn.

___Next row: Sc in first 24 [26, 26] dc; draw up a loop in each of next 2 dc, ayrn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook (1 sc decreased); dec 1 sc over next 2 dc; place a contrasting color thread between last 2 decs to mark center back and carry thread up between center sts of each row; sc in each remaining dc, sc in top of ch-3. There are 2 sts less on each sc row than on previous row. Ch 3, turn.

___Following row: Dc in next sc and in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last 2 rows alternately until there are 21 sts on each side of marker on an sc row. Break off, leaving a 12" length for sewing. Fold hood in half along center back and sew top edges together.

___Leaving about 1.5" free on each side of V at center front of neck, sew lower edge of hood to remaining neck edge, easing hood in to fit.

___Hood and Front Neck Edging: With right side facing, attach Pink to lower left face edge of hood.

___Rnd 1: Ch 1, spacing sts evenly and working from left to right, work reverse sc as follows: * inset hook in edge to the right and complete a sc. Repeat from * around entire hood edge and front neck opening. Join to first sc. Break off and fasten.

___Fringe: Cut 1 strand of each color, each 10" long. Holding all 3 strands together, fold in half to form loop. Insert hook from back to front in any outer corner sc and draw loop through. Draw ends through loop and pull tightly to form knot. Knot 3 strands as before in every other sc around lower edge.

___Neck Cord: With 2 strands of Pink held together, make a chain 35" long. Break off and fasten. Lace cord through first dc row on hood.

___Tassel (make 2): Wind Pink 20 times around a 4" piece of cardboard. Break off. Draw a 10" length under strands at one end and tie securely; slip from cardboard and wind another strand around tassel 3/4" below tied end and fasten; cut strands at opposite end and tirm evenly. Sew a tassel to each end of cord.
