Business Guide to Internet Law

Foreword

"There is more to technology than just the Internet. And there's one law firm that understands how technology, law and business integrate"

Werksmans is heavily committed to the strategic use of technology in order to add value to client service. In July 1996, we consolidated the technology law expertise we have developed over previous years, and formed a Technology Law Team. We were the first law firm in South Africa to do this.

The move was considered by many to be an unusually strong focus in this burgeoning area of law. The decision has been justified by the tremendous response from the firms' traditional corporate clients, as well as companies who in the past were not regarded as clients of the firm.

Our Tech Law team prides itself in keeping up to date with the latest technology law developments. Even more importantly, the team prides itself in understanding how technology law, commercial law and global legal issues have to be integrated when considering solutions to new technological applications being developed by clients.

We have prepared this guide as a service to our clients to help their executives and IT specialists gain an overview of the legal issues which have to be considered as a result of the crucial role that technology, and in particular the Internet, is playing in business.

Key Points...

We have tried to present the issues in a non-legalistic manner and have offered tips at the end of each chapter.

We hope you find the guide useful.
