                        The Tamilnadu Government's Tamil Cinema State Awards for the year 1999 have been announced. The Government's press release says:

                        Chief Minister Karunanidhi has announced the names of the winners of the Kalaiththurai Viththagar Awards, Film Awards and the Awards for the Short Films, created by the students of Chennai Film Institute. These awards are meant for the year 1999.

                        After having seen and evaluating the 39 films that had been sent in for the same (evaluation) and also the 11 short films sent in by the Film Institute students, the panel headed by Justice B.Bhaskaran had forwarded it's recommendations to the Government. Accepting those recommendations, the Chief Minister Kalaignar Mu. Karunanidhi has announced the names of the award winners. The details:

                        Aringnar Anna Award:           Director J,Mahendran.

                      Kalaivanar Award:                 Kaakaa Radhakrishnan.

                         Raja Sando Award:                  Shankar, director of "Muthalvan"

                        M.G.R. Award:                      Vijay.

                      Kavingnar Kannadasan

                    Nadigar Thilagam
                      Sivaji Ganesan Award:             Kamalhassan

                     Thyagraja Bhagavathar

               These awards and the grants meant for the films would be distributed by the Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi at a function to be held at Valluvar Kottam on Friday the 12 th January, 2001.
