PATTERN:
2 dc shell = dc, ch 1, dc
3 dc shell = 3 dc
___PANTS: Beg at waist, loosely chain 72(84-96) to measure approx 26(28-30) inches. Taking care not to twist ch, join with sl st to first ch.
___Rnd 1: Ch 2, * sk 2 ch, 3 dc shell in next ch, sk 2 ch, 2 dc shell in next ch *, rep between *'s 4(5-6) times more; sk 2 ch, 3 dc shell in next ch, sk 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch and mark as center front; rep between * 's 5(6-7) times, sk 2 ch, 3 dc shell in next ch, sk 2 ch, join with sl st to top of ch-2 and mark ch-2 as center back. Between marked dc's there are 11(13-15) shells.
___Rnd 2 thru 4: Ch 2, work 3 dc shell in center st of each 3 dc shell, 2 dc shell under ch-1 of each 2 dc shell and 1 dc in dc at center front. Join with sl st to top of ch-2. Rep Rnd 2 for pattern. Work 2 more rnds.
___Rnd 5: Add 1 dc at each side of marked sts (between marked dc and adjoining shell). 4 st inc.
___Rnd 6: Work a 2 dc shell in each of the 4 inc sts of Rnd 5.
___Rnd 7: Work pat.
___Rnd 8: Rep Rnd 5.
___Rnd 9: Work 2 dc in incs of last rnds.
___Rnd 10: Work 3 dc shell between 2 dc incs of last rnds.
___Rnd 11: Work pat. Between marked sts there are 15(17-19) shells.
___Rnds 12, 13, 14: Rep Rnds 5, 6, 7. Between marked sts there are 17(19-21) shells.
___FIRST LEG: Work pat to center front, work 1 dc in center dc, ch 7 (crotch) and from right side, join with sl st to top of ch-2 at beg of rnd.
___Next Rnd: Ch 2, work pat to ch (ending with 2 dc shell), work 1 dc after shell, 1 dc in center dc and 1 dc in first ch (count as 3 dc shell on next rnd), sk 2 ch, 2 dc shell in next ch, sk 2 ch, 2 dc in last ch, join to top of ch-2. (Count last 2 dc and ch-2 at beg of rnd as 3 dc shell in next rnd). Fasten off. From right side, join yarn under ch-1 of the 2 dc shell at center of crotch.
___Next Rnd: Ch 3, dc in same sp (a 2 dc shell), work pat around, join with sl st under ch-3. There are 20(22-24) shells.
Rep last rnd until 42 rnds from crotch. Work 1 rnd sc, skipping each ch-1 in the 2 dc shells. Join and fasten off.
___SECOND LEG: From right side, join yarn at base of 2 dc shell at center of crotch. Ch 3, dc in same st as joining (a 2 dc shell), 3 dc in base of 3 dc shell, work pat around, ending 3 dc in base of last 3 dc shell, join under ch-3. Work same as other leg. Weave in ends. Finish with waistband or cord as below.
___WAISTBAND: Join yarn from right side and work 3 rows sc over round elastic. Draw elastic to desired fit and fasten securely.
___CORD: Cut 4 lengths approx 9 yds long. Make loop 4 inches from one end and work ch, ending 4 inches from other end. Draw cord thru top of pants. Cut 14 lengths of 9 inches. Pull 7 strands thru first ch st. With another strand, tie tightly 1/2 inch from top and trim ends. Pull remaining 7 strands thru last ch st and tie.
TO DECREASE A 2 DC SHELL:
On first row, work only 1 dc under ch 1.
On next row, skip the single dc.
TO DECREASE A 3 DC SHELL:
On first row, work 2 dc in center st.
On next row, work 1 dc between the 2 dc.
On next row, skip the single dc.
___PULLON: With K hook, ch 104(116-128) to measure approx 34( 38-42) inches. Taking care not to twist ch, join with sl st to first ch.
___Rnd 1: Ch 2, sk 1 ch, * 2 dc shell in next ch, sk 2 ch, 3 dc shell in next ch, sk 2 ch *, rep between *'s 7(8-9) times, 2 dc shell in next ch, sk 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch (mark as one side seam st), sk 1 ch, rep between *'s 8(9-10) times, 2 dc shell in next ch, sk 1 ch, join with sl st to top of ch 2. Mark the ch-2 as other side seam st.
TURN AT END OF EVERY RND.
___Rnd 2: Ch 2, * 2 dc shell under ch-1 of 2 dc shell, 3 dc shell in center st of 3 dc shell *, rep between *'s 7(8-9) times, 2 dc shell, 1 dc in marked dc, rep between *'s 8(9-10) times, 2 dc shell, join with sl st to top of ch-2, turn.
Rep Rnd 2 for pat. There are 17(19-21) shells between marked sts.
Work pat until 16 rnds from beg. Ch 1, work 1 rnd sc, skipping the ch-1 in each 2 dc shell. Join and fasten off.
From this point on (underarm), back and front are worked separately in rows.
___RIGHT FRONT: NECK AND ARMHOLE SHAPING: Mark the center shell between seam sts. To both left and right of center shell, also mark the 7th (8th-9th) shell (armhole).
___Row 1: Join yarn in back of last dc of center shell, ch 2. Working in back of the sc row, insert hook thru sts of last shell row and keeping pat as established, work to marked shell, work 1 dc only in marked shell.
___Row 2: Ch 2, work pat to last shell, decrease 1 dc as above, work 1 dc in top of turning ch. Beg every row with ch 2 and end every row with 1 dc in top of turning ch to keep edges straight. Continue to work in pat, decreasing 1 dc at neck edge only until there are 3( 4-4) shells, plus an edge st at each side. When 11 rows in armhole, fasten off.
___LEFT FRONT: Join yarn in back of remaining marked shell. Ch 2, work pat, ending with 1 dc in first dc of center shell. Work to correspond to right front, decreasing at front only.
___BACK: Mark 3 shells as on front and work each side same as front.
___FINISHING: Overcast shoulders. From right side, beg at seam st and working over the sc row across underarm, work 1 row sc around armholes, holding to desired fit. Join and fasten off. From right side, beg at center back, work 1 row sc around entire neck edge, spacing sts to keep edge flat. Join and fasten off. Weave in ends and block to measurements.
___FRINGE (for yoke): Wrap yarn around a 2-1/2 inch cardboard and cut one end. Use 1 strand for each fringe. Fold in half, insert hook from bottom up thru lower loop of sc, pull fold thru, pull cut ends thru fold. Fringe each sc st across front and back and each sc along sides of armhole (do not fringe across underarm). Trim evenly.
___FRINGE (for lower edge): Wrap yarn around a 4 inch cardboard and cut one end. Use 2 strands for each fringe. Insert hook from wrong side, fringe in each ch-2 space and at base of each shell. Trim evenly.
