The Gypsy Crochet Thing by Jack Frost (the yarn people),
Volume 79, 1970

SIZES:  Dress measurement at bustline:  26, 30, 34, 38, 42

MATERIALS:  4-oz skeins Jack Frost Wintuk Knitting Worsted:
Color A:  1, 1, 1, 2, 2 skeins
Color B:  1 skein
Color C:  1 skein

"K" and 1 smaller (size 7, 8 or 9) crochet hooks

GAUGE:  3 sc = 1 inch;
8 rounds = 2-1/2 inches

Dress is planned for 21, 23-1/2, 26, 26, 26 inch length to the underarm.

STRIPING PATTERN: 
8 rounds of A, 8 rounds of B, 8 rounds of C.

With Color A and K hook, chain 78, 90, 102, 114, 126.
Rnd 1:  Taking care not to twist the chain, join with 1 sc in the first chain, 1 sc in each chain around.
Rnd 2:  1 sc in each sc around, marking the end of the round.  Piece should measure 26, 30, 34, 38, 42 inches.  Work even for 6 more rounds.  Change to Color B.  Work even in striping pattern for a total of 8, 9, 10, 10, 10 stripes.  Using the smaller hook, work 2 rounds of the next color (Color C, A, B, B, B) and 2 rounds of the following color (Color A, B, C, C, C).  End off.

STRAPS:  With K hook and Color B, C, A, A, A, chain 28, 36, 45, 45, 45.  1 sc in the second chain, 1 sc in each of the remaining chains, 3 sc I n the last chain, working around the piece, 1 sc in the bottom of each sc.  End off.  Make 2 straps.

FINISHING:  Sew straps about 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2, 4, 4-1/2 inches in from each side, with the last 1-1/2 inches of the straps overlapping the dress.
