Following the phenomenal success of Dracula in 1999 and Carmen in 2000, Northern Ballet Theatre returns to Sadler's Wells with a horror double bill.
Jekyll and Hyde is a new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story of the eternal struggle between good and evil. The show will be directed and choreographed by Massimo Moricone, creator of two of NBT's best-loved shows, A Christmas Carol and Romeo & Juliet. Massimo has joined forces with fellow Italian, Alessandro Ciammarughi, whose set and costume designs are inspired by Fritz Lang's 1927 futuristic film classic Metropolis. With a specially commissioned score by English composer Philip Wilby, Jekyll and Hyde is the latest in a long line of powerful narrative dance dramas from NBT.
Pallid corpses litter a bloody path from Transylvania to London, in the first ever British dance version of Dracula. This hugely popular retelling of the horror classic earned cult status on its last visit to Sadler's Wells and has created great excitement throughout its recent national tour.
The mesmeric and charismatic Count Dracula seduces and discards his drained victims in pursuit of Mina Harker, the beloved wife of Jonathan, in a vivid and faithful re-telling of Bram Stoker's Gothic masterpiece.
Created by director Christopher Gable and choreographer Michael Pink, Dracula is performed to a powerful score by Philip Feeney. Olivier award-winning designer Lez Brotherston's set and costumes are ingenious and thrillingly sensuous, complemented by eerie and supernatural effects.
The resulting work is breathtaking, cinematic, with the masterful Count at its rich and bloody heart.
