Welcome to the official web site for the Duluth band Low

Greetings from Alan Sparhawk in Prague, 12 March 2001

greetings from europe, everyone. shows are going well. thank you to all who have been coming out. i hope now we won't offend anyone by anouncing that we are going to ask people to refrain from (or at least limit their) smoking at our shows. i don't know if it's the ventilation or what, but some of our recent shows have made it clear that the second hand smoke is becoming detrimental to our health and ability to perform. i hope you will understand. also, please don't make this an issue of contention at shows. it's already a little embarassing that people get in fights about being quiet. we appreciate that some of you are very protective of us, but don't jump all over someone if you see them smoking. people can do what they want at our shows - they paid to get in - we are just kindly asking. take care, and see you soon. -alan

Greetings & news from Alan Sparhawk, March 2001

hello everyone. we're about to head off for europe, so i thought i should check in. it's been alot of work touring with hollis along, but it's been nice to see some of you at the shows. i'd like to thank starfire (the rock-n-roll nanny) for his help so far. if you havn't already, check out his on-line tour diary. the shows are going well - the biggest we've ever played. it's been a bit strange. some of you probably remember seeing us with 50 people in a small club not too long ago, so you may know what i'm talking about. we're excited about how the new record is doing, and it's been fun playing the new songs live.

i should mention that there are a few smaller things coming out over the next few months: we recently did a collaboration recording in holland with our friends in the dirty 3. we're very happy with how it turned out and it's coming out as an e.p. on konnkurent records in may or june (touch and go will be distributing it in the u.s.). also, our friend karla (from the band ida) is putting out a single on tiger style records and we did a couple songs for the b-side - kind of a split e.p. with 2 songs each. we recorded it with waren defever of his name is alive. that should also be coming out in may or june.

thanks again for your continued kind words regarding hollis. she's fun to have around and we learn more about her (and ourselves) every day. i wish i could accurately express our thanks to you all. see you soon.

What's New: Spring 2000

Check out Yahoo! broadcasts for four songs recorded at Yahoo studios in Dallas this January, and Spin.com for some live Low performances from the CMJ festival this past October.

Low will be touring Europe in March, the U.S. West Coast in April, and Japan in May. As always, follow along with rock-n-roll nanny DJ Starfire's tour diaries.

New compilations featuring Low-related material are a tribute to Jandek (Low covers "Carnival Queen"), The Unaccompanied Voice (featuring an Alan and Mimi a cappella song), Shanti Project Collection 2 (new solo material by Mimi Parker), and Duluth Does Dylan (songs by Low and by Alan's side project the Black-Eyed Snakes). More information about these and about 4 Low-related 'zines (including the newest QRD) can be found on the news page.
