The name Ran Tan Band was very nearly lost forever! Due to a sudden urge to change names, they played the 13th Fylde Folk Festival disguised as "Ducks On A Wall", and did a stint at The Lamb in Preston as "Gonks Go Beat". Anyone who has a souvenir programme of that momentous occasion at Fylde may remember this. For those without, this is how they were billed:
DUCKS ON A WALL
"Ducks On A Wall is a new and exciting band with experienced and versatile musicians. It's members have worked the folk club, dance and festival scene in England and Europe. Not only is the music adventurous - ranging from English, Irish, European, African and many self-penned tunes - but also the arrangement of the tunes have many varied influences, which are reflected in the instrumentation. Ducks On A Wall are playing for the Opening Ceilidh in the North Euston Hotel on Friday evening. Their caller for the evening is Dave Hunt."
