The Herald's election recount figures are in, in a special report starting today and running through the week. The result: Bush won Florida, if you count one way...or maybe Gore won...by 3 votes?

The Florida Census data came in this past week, as well as California's and the last of the other states. Since we're still thinking about and looking at this data, I'll keep these Census links near the top for one more week:

  • The Florida data basic files are here, with the press release.
  • For detail from the latest releases down to tract and block level, the American Factfinder is an easy way to go. The link under "Data Sets" takes you to the Detailed Tables which can find blocks and tracts.
  • Census Data from AP Has easy-to -use data from states and counties (total, over/under 17 age breakdown, hispanic data and change from 1990), diversity index (includes race breakdowns).
  • Census 2000 USA Today analysis and reports as states' data is released.
  • For quick data on states and counties I've always liked the Census' State and County Quickfacts. It has links to summary of data available, from 1999 Census estimates to employment, housing, land area and density, and business data. 2000 data hasn't been added yet (will be soon) but today there's a new link to go straight to 2000 data on Factfinder.
  • More Census links.
  • Bay of Pigs: the 40th anniversary is coming up. Here are some sources (all also linked on the Cuba page): CIA Documents on Cuba; National Security Archives documents (includes new documents released for recent Havana conference); Castro Speech Database from LANIC at U.Texas, includes his speeches from early years.

    MORE NEW STUFF:

    • Cinemedia search or browse to links to movies, directors, production companies, networks, actors, lots more. I don't know about you, though, but this site hurts my eyes (it's bright!).
    • For even deeper entertainment industry research, we use Baseline, a subscription service, but their site also has free news and some data.
    • ERICAE.net site for Education news, assessment reports, search of ERIC education database.
