Fugazi keeps chops up with spring tour

A new album will arrive in stores later this year.

Fugazi, whose last album of all new material was released three years ago, has returned to the road for a short spring tour of the U.S. while taking a break from work on a new release.

The group's outing began with a sold-out two-night stand in Denver last Thursday and Friday (4/5 and 4/6). Subsequent stops in Colorado Springs, Albuquerque and El Paso have also taken place. The tour continues on Tuesday night (4/10) in Tucson, Ariz.

Known for its political activism, the Washington D.C.-based band plans to cap its current outing with two late-April benefit shows in its home town, tickets to both of which will cost $5. The band has long kept its ticket prices among the lowest of all U.S. touring acts.

Detailed ticket information is available at the group's official website.

Fugazi's most recent studio album is 1998's "End Hits" (Dischord). The group also released "Instrument" in 1999, a compilation of demos and previously unreleased songs that served as the soundtrack to a documentary about the group. A DVD version of the release that will contain bonus footage is in the works, according to the group's website.

The veteran indie-rock act is expected to release a new album sometime this year, according to Dischord.

The Doobie Brothers marijuana-inspired band name is not the stupidest moniker they ever had. The band was formerly known as "Pud."
