Columbia-Minerva, Totes and Bags to Crochet With Rug Yarn, Leaflet 2550, 1970

Made with Columbia-Minerva's new WASHABLE RUG YARN, an all purpose easy-care 100% acrylic yarn (1-3/4 oz. pull skeins).

MATERIALS:

  • 5 skeins of Background color
  • Small amounts of flower colors
  • Small amounts of 2 shades of Green for leaves
  • "Boye" crochet hook Size G

Gauge: 3 sc to 1"; 7 rows to 2"

___Row 1: Ch 37. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. 36 sc.
___Row 2: 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. Repeat Row 2, working to 23" from start. Fasten off.

___GUSSETS: Make 2: Ch 5. Work on 4 sc to fit each side when bag is folded in half, plus 3" for loop at top of each side. Sew in place, folding down 1-1/2" at top and sewing end to gusset.

___HANDLE: With double yarn crochet 64" chain. Draw through loops at top of each gusset and sew ends tog.

___LARGE FLOWERS: Ch 5, join with sl st into ring, * ch 7, 1 sc in ring, repeat from * 6 times more, fasten off.

___MEDIUM FLOWERS: Ch 5, join, * ch 6, 1 sc in ring, repeat from * 4 times, fasten.

___SMALL FLOWERS: Ch 5, join, * ch 5, 1 sc in ring, repeat from * 4 times, fasten. Sew in place making rounded or pointed petals.

___ROUND FLOWERS: Ch 5, join. Work 2 sc in each ch st, join and fasten. Sew in place with right side to right side of front. Make a contrasting french knot in center of every flower.

___LEAVES: Ch 5, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch, fasten. Make 7 light green and 7 dark green leaves. Sew in place.
