Antennas and Gateway Systems
Since our beginnings in 1951, ViaSat has been a leader in developing and deploying high performance, state-of-the-art antenna and tracking systems for our customers - whether commercial or government, domestic or international. Our systems perform tracking, telemetry and command functions for L, S, X, Ku, and Ka-band frequency spectrums.
To ensure a successful, smooth and timely implementation, ViaSat works with you through all phases of design, development and manufacture to test, installation and post sales support. Our dedicated Worldwide Service Organization ensures that you receive the warranty and post warranty support necessary to keep your systems operational for many years.
For almost 50 years, ViaSat has supplied in excess of 1,000 full motion antennas and/or tracking systems and more than 70,000 antennas of varying sizes from 1m to 21m into more than 140 countries throughout the world. We can supply systems to meet any of the following requirements:
- Limited Motion Antenna Systems for data, voice and video applications, including antenna control and positioning systems.
- Remote Sensing data reception for polar orbiting satellites
- Advanced Gateways for orbiting and geostationary satellites
- Telemetry Systems for tracking moving targets, such as satellites and aircraft
- Monitoring Systems for ELINT and SIGINT applications
- TT&C Systems for control of satellites
- Mobile Systems where a re-deployable antenna system is important
- Shipboard Systems for those applications where antennas are needed on-board ocean going vessels
- Electronic Warfare Systems for special military applications
- Radars for test range instrumentation purposes
Remote Sensing
Having delivered more remote sensing data acquisition systems than all other suppliers in the world, ViaSat is ideally suited to provide a system tailored to meet specific customer requirements. We have supplied remote sensing systems that have a variety of the following capabilities/features:
- L, S, X, Ku, Ka-Band data reception
- S-Band transmit capability for satellite uplink commands
- High efficiency dual shaped reflectors to provide optimum G/T
- High surface accuracy of reflectors enables them to be used in VLBI applications, as well as providing superior remote sensing performance
- A variety of antenna aperture sizes from 3m to 11.28m that are used in both fixed and mobile remote sensing applications
- High dynamics Elevation/Azimuth/Tilt, Elevation/Azimuth/Train and X/Y pedestals
- Dual drive motors in each axis on all systems for reliability and backlash elimination
- Digitally implemented servo controls with optimal state model filtering for the ultimate in tracking accuracy
- Synthesized up & downconverters for full frequency band coverage
- Low and high data rate demodulators and bit synchronizers (6 - 320 Mb/s) which can provide data reception capability for all known remote sensing satellites
- Full station automation using both UNIX and Windows NT platforms
- Built-in automated system tests for system troubleshooting & confidence
- Automated scheduler, with priority contention resolution for planning satellite pass data reception
- Fiber-optic interconnects available for system where control room and antenna are positioned distant to one another
- Full suite of Bit Error Rate test equipment is available
Telemetry Systems
From our beginnings, ViaSat has been one of the leading suppliers of full- motion telemetry systems in the world, having supplied over 400 systems worldwide, in both fixed and mobile configurations. We have supplied systems with a variety of the following capabilities/features:
- P, L, S, C, X-Band tracking and data reception
- 1m to 10m size reflectors to suit a variety of applications
- High efficiency shaped reflectors to provide optimum G/T
- High dynamics pedestals to provide the speeds and accelerations necessary to track high performance fighter aircraft, missiles, launch vehicles, sounding rockets, helicopters and other targets of interest.
- Both single and dual drive pedestals are available to suit a particular customer requirement.
- Sophisticated software in our Antenna Controller to minimize the effects of multipath when tracking low elevation targets (over water in particular).
- Conical scan, single channel monopulse, ESCAN and program track feeds tailored to our customers' specific requirements.
- Digitally implemented servo controls with optimal state model filtering for the ultimate in tracking accuracy.
- Both mobile and fixed configurations.
- Complete turn-key front end supplier, from the antenna/feed assembly to the receivers, and where applicable the diversity combiners .
- All components are able to be controlled remotely using our Station Control Computer.
- Various options are available, including, slip-rings, rotary joints, telescopes, cameras, acquisition antennas, uplink capabilities and many others.
