As many developers already know, Colin Moock has been writing from a long time ago a book called "ActionScript: The Definitive Guide".
The book it's now finished and it will be shipping next month (may 2001). Preorders can now be placed at:
www.moock.org/asdg/buy
FLA files and sample chapters are here:
www.moock.org/asdg
Extract from the back cover: "Learning to program Flash is like exploring a city. You start with fundamentals--how the transit system works and what the main streets are--then you grab yourself a map and start filling in the gaps. You never really know the whole city, you just know more and more about where to get the things you need. You also discover that it pays to keep your map handy."

As Dave said he has just knocked out ming v0.1.1, the ultimate PHP extension to build SWF movies. I can't wait to test it as I am still with 0.0.9c version.
I invited to post here also the german PHP gurus over at php4win.de
So either if they release a new version or if Dave makes the .dll upgrade everyone will be informed :)

Nights have a habit of mysterious gifts and refusals, of things half given away, half withheld, of joys with a dark hemisphere.
That's what this night photos are showing.

And that kind of appetite for immortality is what John Maeda produces with his stunning mix of communication, technology and high quality design.

This is a call to arms. If there is some NT guru experienced in COM components, I'm looking forward making ming run also as a .DLL extension for ASP.
Why? To make SWF generation with ming work also in IIS. I couldn't find a PHP/ming enabled host _yet_ and I've contacted a lot of hosts about including the extension. (including mediatemple& other known companies). And that's something that it's stopping me to show how my code works. For now I'm testing my code in my local IIS 5.0 server with PHP 4. But I can't upload it anywhere yet...
Ming is opensource and every research work I develop is going to be the same and open for everybody with a community soul. The same goes for this.
If you wanna be a super-hero and make the SWF generation work on ASP please send me a line.

I seems I've been a ghost in FF2K+1 San Francisco.
Go and visit my dead fasanimar.com website…
I see my name is well respected in the flash community. Ok, Martin, it's enough telling.

I just knocked out v0.1.1, adding some interesting stuff- you can pull images/mp3s from arbitrary sources like urls or databases now, error reporting is a lot cleaner, you can add bitmaps directly to movies, and probably other stuff I'm forgetting now:

If you have any problems with it or questions or feature requests or other grandiloquent pontifications, please do email me at dave@opaque.net.

Thanks,
-Dave

It seems that Thomas has updated his awesome 3d engine. Oh, and he is going to be at the OFFF festival too. (scroll down)
