This is a slow time of year for the video game industry, but there are still plenty of games up for review. On the Dreamcast, the review crew puts NBA Hoopz, Surf Rocket Racer, and Kao the Kangaroo through its paces. The lone Nintendo 64 review for Polaris SnoCross is symbolic of the dwindling interest in the console, while the PlayStation enjoys a bevy of reviews for games such as Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix, Metal Slug X, and Darkstone. The PlayStation 2 is in its early heyday, and there are 10 reviews for Sony's latest console. ATV Offroad Fury, Knockout Kings 2001, Onimusha: Warlords, and the first Star Wars game for the PS2, Starfighter, are just a sample of the PlayStation 2 reviews in the April 2001 issue. The Game Boy Color also gets a healthy dose of the review crew, with eight reviews in all for Nintendo's long-standing handheld.
The April 2001 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly also has the latest news from the video game industry, including Sega's big announcement that it will no longer produce consoles, as well as an exposé on the PlayStation 2, which demonstrates evidence of Sony's strong-arming retailers into promoting the PlayStation 2. As if all this weren't enough, the April issue is full of the codes and witty commentary that you've come to expect from Electronic Gaming Monthly.
