7th Air Force

This Air Force caption's flight clothing and equipment are typical of those worn by Vietnam-era crewman. Over flame retarding coveralls, he wears a survival vest and anti-gravity cutaway trousers. The vest pockets contain survival gear, including a radio, insect repellent, a compass, flares, a mirror for signaling rescuers, and a fishing net. They also are supplied with a .38-caliber pistol which he wears in his belt. His G-suit trousers have air bags which expand when he is subjected to centrifugal forces. The pressure from the airbags prevents all the blood from going to the heat or legs, this decreases the G-force to the pilots. Maps are often put in the legs of the suit. A life preserver is also usually attached to the suit.
