HOME | Censorship FAQ | BBC & SKY cuts | PETITION

The Snipsons project is aimed at all viewers of 'The Simpsons' in the United Kingdom (and, to a lesser extent, those who watch the show on SKY across Europe) - the purpose being to provide a comprehensive listing of scenes and quotes that featured in the original episodes, as shown in the USA, but have been cut or edited permenantly or temporarily by SKY and the BBC when aired in the UK. It is intended primarily for reference and an aid to appreciating the show, but is also an active campaigning tool against the censorship thereof.

Before asking me any specific questions about anything on this site, READ THE FAQ.

  • Changes to link URLs. More minor updates detailing the BBC versions, most of which are uncut... Additions to the petition.

  • Make sure you download the Akbar font (if you don't have it already) to view The Snipsons as intended.

    CONTENTS:

  • A Snipsons Censorship FAQ outlining the basic prinicples (and indeed inconsistencies) of SKY and the BBC with regards to censorship The Simpsons.

  • A directory of known cuts in the SKY and BBC versions of episodes with full quotes and scene summaries and episode-specific notes, linked to the episode capsules at The Simpsons Archive.

  • An on-line petition against Simpsons censorship.

If you want to join the project too, then me (BenNunn@depro.co.uk). If you have discovered a cut that we don't know about, then let us know (with some kind of proof, preferably a transcript from the episode capsule). Please send as much info as possible when detailing possible cuts - the exact dialogue before and after the missing portion, discrepencies between BBC and SKY versions, any visual or audio oddities etc.

  • The Snipsons Project team:

All of these guys have contributed to the project - in various ways and in varying degrees. The Snipsons would not have been possible without them:

Andrew Bull, Andrew Gilmour, Ged Gleeson, Michael Griffin, Kevin Haley, Robert Irvine, Richard Kearsley, Simon Leventhal, James Masterton, Lee MacGuire, David MacKenzie, Ned Mooney, Alton Nutile, Jouni Paakkinen, Tim Peace, Steve Penna, Alex Perry, James Perry, Dave Schofield, Ben Stevenson, Neil Thomas, Robert Todd, David Yates.
THIS SITE WAS ESTABLISHED AS THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND. PLEASE DO NOT STEAL CONTENT FROM HERE AND THEN CLAIM CREDIT FOR IT YOURSELF, AS IT IS THE COLLECTIVE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF THOSE WHO WORK ON THE PROJECT.

    LINKS

The Official FOX Simpsons Site. All show and no substance. Come to think of it, not much show either!

The Simpsons Archive aka SNPP.com. The primary Unofficial site. Contains all the episode capsules and lots of information and FAQs on every aspect of The Simpsons. Obviously US-orientated but highly relevant to any Simpsons fan.

    UK SIMPSON SITES

The Unofficial UK Simpsons Site by Lee MacGuire. TV Schedules, video release dates and other important information.

The Simpsonian. This site has full episodes in RealVideo for download. Unfortunately, most of them are the US syndicated episodes, and as such are censored just as much as the UK versions - albeit differently.

The Springfield Files. Another strong UK Simpsonsite.

Ben Stevenson's Simpsons screengrabs site. Screengrabs of cut scenes from one of our contributors.

Tim Peace's Simpsons Site - various bits and bobs, and on-line trivia games with ridiculously difficult questions like 'How many of the visible windows of Springfield Retirement home had their curtains drawn when Abe threw the revitalising tonic down to Homer?'

Jedah's Dominion. by Dave Schofield (or Jedah T. Jedi as he likes to be addressed). A passionate anti-SKY and anti-censorship rant, with pics from scenes which were shown by the BBC but not by SKY.

    Chris Toon's page

NOTE: There are several hundred general Simpsons fan-sites around, most of them offering pics, .WAVs, quotes etc. and most of them unoriginal and adding little to the credibility of Simpsonian presence on the web. I have no plans to link to these - they are not difficult to find if you really want to go to these identikit sites (try the webring below). You may even find summat worthwhile. However, I will only add links if I believe the site to be relevant and interesting OR if the site owner has helped me with this project.
