Info: Aram Karam was the first great Iraqi footballer, who earned a reputation for scoring goals from apparently impossible long-range situations. Aram was a striker capable of having the ball in the back of the net within a blink of an eye. After playing for various select teams in the district of Hinidi from 1936, he joined Levy Civilian of Habbaniya in 1943. In 1951, he was selected to play for the first Iraqi international team against Turkey in Ankara, Aram was the hero for Iraq scoring 4 goals. The next year, he joined newly formed club Nafat of Kirkuk. Aram was not only the captain of the team but also the head coach. In 1954, the team won the Northern Iraqi Championship and also won 6 consecutive Middle East Oil Companies Championships under his leadership. In 1960 Aram retired and became head of sports at the club while also helping the Iraqi national team. Aside from football, the legendary striker also won six consecutive tennis titles in the Persian Gulf Tennis Championships.

Info: Short in height, thin and fair. Shidrak was nondescript in appearance but a player whose versatility was matched by his outstanding skills. Started his career with Civil Cantonment in 1960, where he played for 3 years, in 1963 he joined Al-Fareek Al-Thalatha in Baghdad. Two years later, he was selected for the Iraqi National team. In 1966 in the Arab Championship in Iraq, he helped the team to victory against Syria in the final. Shidrak also played for Iraq in the Asian Cup in Thailand in 1972, Olympic qualifiers in 1968 and 1972 and also the World Military cup win in 1972. After nearly a decade in the Iraqi team the star playmaker retired from international football in 1973 after the Iraqi team failed to qualify for the World Cup in 1974. After retiring in 1975, Shidrak turned to coaching obtaining 2 certificates under the guidance of Roy Race, Dean of Wales University and Czechoslovakian national coach George Khanlkosh. However, he is now currently working as a sports commentator.

Info: An effective and creative attacking ‘livewire’, who was an crucial influence in the Iraqi national team during the late 80s and through the 90s. Habib first appeared in the national team in 1988, playing in the Arab Championship, Olympics in Seoul and the Gulf Cup, where he was voted as player of the tournament. Was an important part of a talented Iraqi side that nearly qualified for the World Cup in 1994. Played in Lebanon for Al Ansar, but returned to Talaba at the beginning of 2000, after he and Laith Hussein were used as a scapegoat for the clubs poor season, in which the club failed to land a record 11th consecutive league title. Retired from the international scene after being omitted from the Asian Cup squad in Lebanon in 2000, by Milan Zivadinovic, but was surprisingly brought back by Adnan Hamad after the sacking of Milan in Febauary 2001. Habib was placed by the German based Federation of Football History & Statistics as Iraq's 3rd best player of the century.

Info: Samir Khadum was a dominating and aggressive man-marker who was a regular for the Iraqi national team during the 1990s. He was a member of Iraq’s Asian Youth Championship winning team in 1988 in Doha, Qatar which included goalkeeper Imad Hashem, captain Radhi Shnishel and attacking midfielder Laith Hussein. A year later, Samir participated in the World Youth Cup, helping Iraq top a group featuring Argentina, Norway and Spain, but in the 2nd round the Iraqi team lost 2-1 to USA. He returned to Doha during 1994 World Cup qualifiers where Iraq were only 2 points from qualifying for the World Cup in the USA. He was part of the Iraqi team that played in the 1996 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, beating Iran and Thailand and reaching the quarterfinals where they lost to a golden goal from the hosts. Samir was part of the 1998 World Cup campaign that ended when Iraq lost home and away to Kazakhstan. Samir retired from the national team in 1999, 10 years after making his debut.

Info: Alaa Khadum was one of the best Iraqi strikers during the 90s, who was the star striker alongside the great Ahmad Radhi during Iraq’s 1994 qualifying campaign in Doha, Qatar. During the qualifying games in 1993, Alaa scored 7 goals, including the winner in the 2-1 win over Iran. The forward started his career with Al Sinaa before moving to Talaba. After his exploits for the national team during the qualifiers in Doha, he was offered a contract by Qatari club Al Taawon to play for them, with many Iraqi players deciding to move abroad with Ahmad Radhi and Laith Hussein both also moving to Qatar to play for Al Wakra, Alaa joined the Qatari club. He made his last appearances for the national team during the disastrous 1998 World Cup qualifiers losing 2 games to Kazakhstan, after helping Iraq win the 1997 Nehru Cup in India. The traditional out and out striker once scored 7 in the Palestine Youth Cup in 1989, helping Iraq to second place behind Morocco.
