WITNESS #7 TESTIMONY

PLEASE DESCRIBE IN YOUR OWN WORDS HOW YOU CAME TO SEE THE OBJECT, WHAT IT WAS DOING WHEN YOU SAW IT, AND HOW LONG YOU SAW IT FOR — ALL OF THAT, AND HOW DID YOU LOSE SIGHT OF IT?

OK. I was driving west on Lake Drive in Centerville, Illinois, and—

THAT'S CENTERVILLE, THAT'S ON THE EAST PART OF ILLINOIS?

It's right by East St. Louis and it's close to Dupo.

OH, IT'S CLOSE TO DUPO?

Yeah, well, they're, Dupo, East St. Louis, Cahokia and Dupo are like right next to each other.

I SEE. SO CENTERVILLE, BECAUSE THERE'S ANOTHER CENTERVILLE RIGHT ON THE EASTERN PART OF THE STATE.

Yeah, OK.

IT'S RIGHT ON THE INDIANA BORDER, SO YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE CENTERVILLE THAT'S RIGHT BESIDE DUPO?

Well, it's closest to East St. Louis. And then there's Cahokia, and then there's Dupo.

OK. I SEE. SO, WHAT TIME EXACTLY WAS IT WHEN YOU SAW IT?

It was 6:50 a.m.

6:50 A.M. OK. NOW, HOW WERE YOU SURE OF THE TIME, SO SURE OF THE TIME?

I was on my way to work and I leave home at a quarter to seven every morning, I'm a regular person, and it takes me about 10 minutes to get to my job and I was about half the way there, so it was about 5 minutes away from here when I saw it.

DO YOU MIND ME ASKING WHAT YOUR OCCUPATION IS?

I'm a school teacher.

SCHOOL TEACHER, OK. NOW, I NEED TO REINFORCE THE FACT THAT WE KEEP ALL OF OUR IDENTITIES CONFIDENTIAL, OF THE PEOPLE WHO CALL US AND TALK TO US. SO, IT WAS 6:50 A.M. AND COULD YOU GO THROUGH THE SIGHTING?

Sure, OK. I was driving west on Lake Drive and, Lake Drive goes over Interstate 255, and as I was coming down the western part of the overpass, there's quite a vista of the southwest sky, there's a big state park, it's [unintelligible] Park, and there's no trees or anything so you can see quite a ways. And I was, you know, looking in the sky as I was driving and I saw the object. At first I thought it was an airplane, 'cause, well, there's Parks Bi-State Airport nearby and we're also in the flight path for Lambert Field, but it arrested my attention because it was much larger than an airplane would seem, and you know, I was driving my car so I couldn't really look at it, you know, intent observation, but I started looking for navigation lights, the red and green. And I didn't see any, so, this really aroused my curiosity. I did slow down to watch it, I didn't quit driving completely, but I could see that it was a triangular shaped affair and it had a couple of really bright lights and seemed like many other smaller lights around it. It looked to me to be motionless, but, you know, it was hard to judge that since I was moving forward all the time and I couldn't really concentrate 'cause I was still driving my car.

NOW WAS IT DAYBREAK AT THIS STAGE, OR WAS IT STILL DARK?

It was just dawn. The sky was just beginning to lighten.

OK. SO YOU WERE ABLE TO DETECT A SHAPE OR AN OUTLINE OF THE THING? BECAUSE OF THE LIGHT, IT WAS BEGINNING TO GET LIGHT? OK.

Yeah. In fact, it was light, the sky was growing brighter as I was watching it and at first I couldn't make out the shape of it but as I kept watching I could tell it was a triangle.

OK. WAS IT A PERFECT TRIANGLE, OR WAS IT A DISTORTED TRIANGLE?

Well, my first recollection is it was more of an arrow shape.

ARROW SHAPE. NOW, THE COLOR?

Couldn't tell.

OK. AND IT WAS MOTIONLESS YOU SAID, BUT WAS IT MOTIONLESS FOR THE ENTIRE PERIOD THAT YOU WATCHED IT FOR?

As nearly as I could tell.

OK. NOW, IF IT WAS DRIFTING JUST SLIGHTLY, WHICH DIRECTION DO YOU THINK IT WOULD HAVE DRIFTED IN?

That's hard for me to say.

OK. AND THIS WAS, WHAT DATE WAS THE SIGHTING?

It was on January 5th.

JANUARY 5TH, OK. AND HOW LONG DID YOU SEE IT FOR, APPROXIMATELY?

OK, I was driving down Lake Drive but I slowed down some, so I was watching it for four minutes, say.

OK. DID YOU REPORT IT TO ANYBODY ELSE?

Not at the time. I thought there must be some explanation for what I saw, you know, I told my family about it when I returned from work that evening, and I didn't really associate it with anything, or even think about it much, until I saw an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Sunday — the following Sunday.

THEN DID YOU CALL THE NEWSPAPER?

I emailed the reporter, and she called me up and she told me that your organization would probably like to talk to me.

YES, OK. THAT'S DEFINITELY INTERESTING, BECAUSE WHAT YOU SAW THEN WAS APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS AFTER THE MAIN BATCH OF SIGHTINGS.

It was in the southwest sky. It was some distance, you know—

IT WAS IN THE SOUTHWEST SKY OF WHERE YOU WERE LOOKING? SO IT WAS SOUTH, IN THE SOUTHWEST SKY — OK.

In fact, I lost contact with it. I had to turn north on 50th Street in East St. Louis and my school was just a block away from Lake Drive. I pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car and went out, walked out in front the school to try to see it again, right after I moved on, or I could no longer see it.

WHAT WERE THE WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT NIGHT?

It was clear.

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A UFO BEFORE?

No.

IS THIS THE BEST NUMBER TO REACH YOU AT? OH, COULD I HAVE YOUR ADDRESS TOO?

Sure. [address provided]

WOULD YOU MIND IF WE HAD SOMEBODY CALL YOU IF WE HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS? OH, I FORGOT TO ASK YOU ABOUT THE SIZE. YOU SAID, DID YOU SAY IT WAS BIGGER THAN A STANDARD AIRPLANE?

Yes, that's the first thing that made me notice it. Like I say, we're in the flight path of Lambert Field and then there's Parks Bi-State Airport, and when I first saw I thought 'oh a plane has just taken off from Parks' 'cause it would have been more that direction, but then, like I say, I noticed it was big and then there were no navigation lights.

AND APPROXIMATELY, IF YOU WANTED TO COMPARE, FROM SIMILAR DISTANCES, YOUR STANDARD AIRLINER, HOW MUCH BIGGER THAN AN AIRLIINER?

Oh, I'd be hard-pressed to give you an exact answer — I'd have to say much bigger, if that's any help to you.

MUCH BIGGER, OK. NOTICEABLY BIGGER?

Oh yeah, yeah.

OK, GOOD. AND YOU MENTIONED THE ALTITUDE WAS ABOUT—?

I don't know.

IT WAS UNDETERMINED, OK.

It was up in the sky where I might expect to see an airplane.

AND IT WAS A TRIANGLE, AND POSSIBLY AN ARROW SHAPE?

Um-hum.

OK, IF WE HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS, MAYBE WE COULD CALL YOU IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS?

Oh sure.
