|Prod. No.||Episode Name||Transcript / scene summary of cut footage|
|2F01||Itchy & Scratchy Land||
1) Bart attacking the giant Itchy:
LISA - "Don't do it, Bart"
No actual words cut, just a second or so of footage to protect us all from the "L'il Bastard" gag (which has been left in in later episodes). The editing is crude and a bit of Barts laughter was overdubbed badly. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
|2F02||Sideshow Bob Roberts||
1) The couch gag has been cut in a shortened title sequence:
Couch Gag: The family's eyes all run in in darkness. When the lights come on, the bodies run in, sit down on the couch and lean forward, sticking their eyes in their sockets with a popping sound. Recycled from 1F06.
Wierd that both the beeb and SKY would remove a recycled couch gag - we can only assume that it was done by FOX at source to shortern the running time, and this is the version that made it's way to the UK in both cases.
|2F03||Treehouse of Horror V||
1 and 2) The opening credits are cut as follows:
3) In 'The Shinning', when Mr. Burns shows OFF around the house, just before the blood rushes out of the elevator:
BURNS - "This house has quite a long and colorful history. It was built on an ancient Indian burial ground and was the setting of satanic rituals, witch-burnings, and five John Denver Christmas specials."4) When homer finds out there is no TV or beer available:
HOMER - "...I think I'll check out that axe collection. (sinister) see ya later!!!"5) The entire scene immediately following the above cut was cut too:
6 and 7) When Homer sneaks up behind Groundskeeper Willie with the axe:
(Homer holds the axe above his head and plunges it into Willies back. )8) In 'Time and Punishment' when Homer arrives back in an alternate present and is met by Groundskeeper Willie:
WILLIE - "You're still not in your own world, Homer. I can get you home but you have to do exactly as I - aarrghh!"9, 10 and 11) In 'Nightmare Cafeteria', when Groundskeeper Willie makes yet another rescue bid:
(The children run down the corridor. Lunchlady Doris emerges from the cafeteria brandishing a mixer. Shot of Groundskeeper Willie realising that something is up once more.)
With nearly two minutes of footage missing, much of it essential to the plot, this is one of the most mutilated episodes of all. The storylines of all three tales have been somewhat distorted, especially the first one, 'The Shinning' with several cuts, including one whole scene that is vital to the plot. The humourous thread of Groundskeeper Willie getting murdered with an axe in every segment is lost, especially as his second death isn't even implied in SKY's version. Also cut, is a rare speaking part for Maggie in 'Time and Punishment', even though they didn't bother to censor the end credits which still credit James Earl Jones as a guest voice. The John Denver reference was temporarily cut for a few months following the singer's death. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
1) A mini scene cut, while Homer is watching TV in anticipation of the bouncing ball of justice:
(On TV, a title: "Babysitter and the Beast" appears. Cut to a shot of Homer watching the show.)2) During the 'Portrait of an Ass-grabber' film:
(The 'Homer' in the film trail drives up on the kerb to run over the cat. He swerves to make sure the cat is squashed under the wheel and laughs maniacally.)3) When Groundskeeper Willie plays his videotape to the Simpsons:
(Willie puts the tape in the video recorder. On-screen, we see Mayor Quimby and a young lady in the back of a car about to engage in oral sex.)
A good episode to highlight the different things that get censored in that the three cuts are seperate examples of a) language, b) violence and c) sex. It was suprising perhaps that 'ass grabber' was left in, although this succinctly highlights the lack of consistency. The cat-running-over scene looks kind of disjointed with the second or so of footage missing. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
|2F07||Grandpa vs Sexual Inadequacy||
1) Homer and Marge in bed:
MARGE - "We need to talk about the marital difficulties we've been having lately."2) The following scene when OFF go to 'Books, Books and additional Books':
(shot of 'Marital relations' section. Various books are seen - 'Weight Loss Through Laborious Sex', 'Bordello Repair', 'Bork on Sex', 'How to Seduce YourLousy, Lazy Husband', 'Kosher Erotic Cakes' and the Kama Sutra which Homer is reading.)3) When Abe first talks to Homer about his unsatisfying sex life:
HOMER - "...But please, don't _you_ say that word."4) Shortly after, when Abe gives Homer the revitalising tonic:
(Abe opens the curtains and calls to Homer)5) When Homer returns to Marge, invgorated and revitalised:
HOMER - "Marge, I'll explain to you later. (shuts bedroom door behind them)"6) Abe and Homer selling the tonic in the mall:
HOMER - " (to potential customer) Yes, you look like a man who needs help satisfying his wife. So - (The man punches him in the face) Ow! Oh! I guess people have some sort of moral objection to our sex drug."
One of SKYs most censored episodes yet, and some of the most amusing and relevant scenes were lost, rendering it one of the least funny of Season 6. It is obvious from the episode's title that it contains all things sexual, so there is no excuse to censor some of the essential ingredients of the plot like Homer and Marge's decision to purchase a sex manual in the first place, and even the 'tasteful' representation sequence when Homer and Marge get down to it turning into a film - it's a recycled Monty Python sketch, but still bloody funny. However, all the cuts are concentrated in the first half of the episode, and late on, Homer even gets away with saying the word 'ass'. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
|2F09||Homer the Great||
1) AUDIO MADNESS - In Marge's line "Homer, a man who called himself 'you know who' just invited you to a secret 'wink wink' at the 'you-know what'...", the second 'wink' has been overdubbed with a repeat of the first rendition of the word - presumably because it sounds slightly like 'wink-wank' in the original soundtrack.
This is just crazy. Overdubbing a word because the pronunciation sounds slightly like a swear word. You can compare the two versions yourself:
1 and 2) In the bomb shelter:
NED - "No, sweetheart... You... you stay here because- "
MAUDE - "(quickly) Ok."
NED - "I might go mad with fear out there, so Todd, (Gives him a bullet, which he loads into a shotgun) I want you to shoot Daddy if he tries to get back in."
TODD - "OK Dad" (cries)
NED - "OK. (starts to sing as he shuts the door behind him.) Que Sera, sera... Whatever will be will be..."
This was cut very badly and the animation is way off. It's unusual to find black tragi-irony in the show, but not surprising that a reference to shooting was cut. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
|2F12||Homer The Clown||
1) Homer impressing his children with clowning:
BART - "Wow, I'm sorry I doubted you before, Dad."
LISA - "If there had to be a bastardized version of Krusty, I'm glad it's you."
HOMER - "Thanks Honey. Bank Shot! (sprays them both)"
This kind of takes 'bad language' censorship to it's limits - 'bastardised' in this context could not possibly be construed as offensive by anyone, yet two 'craps' and 'Gigantic Asses' magazine were both left in. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
|2F13||Bart vs Australia||
1) Bart confesses to Marge and Homer:
BART - "Just so you dont hear any wild rumours, I'm being indicted for fraud in Australia."
1) When Bruno discovers the $900 phone bill and decides to contact his MP:
BRUNO - " (yells out window) Hey, Gus! I got something to report to you... "2) Homer at the US Embassy:
HOMER - " (leaping back and forth over the border) ...Australia. America. Australia. America."3) The Prime Minister announces Bart's punishment:
HOMER - "Booting?"4) In the gift shop when the frogs start pestering Australia:
SHOPKEEPER - "Get out, get out! Shoo, shoo. Get out of here, yuck! These bloody things are everywhere..."
A handful of little cuts make the continuity in this episode decidely dodgy as SKY continue their purge of Season Six. Also interesting to note that the word 'bum' is cut in it's Australian and indeed British definition, but it is always left in when the American meaning (ie:- a tramp) is intended. The cut in the BBC version is bizarre, to say the least.
1) In the 'cab of the future' with former Mayor Quimby driving:
QUIMBY - "I, uh, er, uh, uh, no. Look at the licence: Mohammed Jafar."
(Otto appears on the computer screen)
OTTO - "Quimby, after this fare, get your indicted ass out to the convention center..."
QUIMBY - "(to himself) I cut the ribbon at that convention center."
2) Hugh's stag night, drinking in Moe's Tavern:
MOE - "Oh, an English boy, huh. You know we saved your ass in World War Two."
HUGH - "Well we saved _your_ arse in World War Three."
MOE - "(concilatory) That's true."
3) Immediately following the scene where Bart is playing Virtual Pool at Moes, before Homer says "Marge, it's so great to have the whole family together under one roof.":
(Marge is in bed watching TV)
MARGE - "You know, Fox turned into a hardcore sex channel so gradually, I didn't even notice. Yeesh!" (turns TV off)
4) Hugh talking to Lisa about his stag night.":
HUGH - "Oh, that was when we hid in the dumpster, after the fire alarm went off in the pornographic magazine warehouse."
It is extremely ironic that a joke involving a British character, and indeed possibly aimed at the British market was cut. SKY are consistently inconsistent regarding the acceptibility of references to pornography and words like 'arse' etc. for instance, in 'Mr. Plow' (9F07) The line "It's a pornography store. I was buying pornography" was not cut, and nor was the word 'arse' (or 'ass' in American, which is probably even milder in impact) in several episodes. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
|2F16||Who shot Mr. Burns: Part One||
1) Single word-line cut at the town meeting:
ABE - "Because of him, I lost my room, my things and my buddy's collection of old sunbathing magazines"
OLD MAN -"Bastard!"
MOE - "I lost my bar."
Continuing the Season 6 purge on bad language...
1) Bart talking to Lisa, after he fails to get the part:
(Bart lies on his bed, dejected)
BART - "Ohh, I just missed out on the greatest opportunity of my entire life! George Burns was right: show business is a hideous bitch goddess."
LISA -"Lisa: Cheer up, Bart. Milhouse is still going to need a true friend..."
... and another language cut...
|2F18||Two Dozen & One Greyhounds||
1) In the Wiggum's bedroom, The Chief and his good lady wife watching TV:
TV ANNOUNCER - "Your cable TV is experiencing difficulties. Please, do not panic. Resist the temptation to read or talk to loved ones. Do not attempt sexual relations, as years of TV radiation have left your genitals withered and useless."
CHIEF WIGGUM - "(checking under the covers) Well I'll be damned."
2) After Bart says "Hey boy, you wanna play fetch?" and SLH is evidently uninterested:
BART - "Aw. Me and Santa's Little Helper used to be a team, but he never wants to play any more since his bitch moved in."
MARGE - "Bart, don't ever say that word again!"
BART - "Well that's what she is. I looked it up."
MARGE - "Well, I'm going to write the dictionary people and have that checked. Feels like a mistake to me."
The first cut is a rare decent joke in one of the weakest episodes of season 6. The completely humourless cutting of the discussion regarding the definition of the term bitch is identical to the BBC's handling of the 'Bastard, Bastard, Bastard' scene in 7F16 and does not do the censors credibility any favours at all.
|2F19||The PTA Dispands||
1) At the Diz-nee historical park with the children watching the reinaction:
GUIDE - "And the Springfielders heroically slaughtered their enemies as they prayed for mercy."
(Some scenes of violence follow to which the children cheer.)
2) Homer talking at the dinner table:
HOMER - "Lisa, if you don't like your job, you don't strike you just go in every day and do it really half-assed. That's the American way."
The historical park battle was censored rather crudely to give the viewer the general idea, but not to show any blood. It was probably SKYs strictest censor that took care of cutting this one as the normally permitted 'half-assed' obviously merited deletion.
|2F20||Who shot Mr. Burns: Part Two||
1) During the 'Senior Burns' mambo number, some of the footage is cut and replaced with another clip of the band from later in the song. It comes between the shot of the chef with the dancing clams, and a close up of a drummer, during the line "So I'll settle my score on the salsa floor with this vengeful Latin rhythm":
(Shot of a man turning the handle of a condom machine in time to the music. Lots of condoms are released.)
FREEZE FRAME FUN: The final frame of the condom machine has been left in and can be seen by using frame-advance on your VCR through the replacement footage.
Apart from being one frame short, SKY managed to make this look fairly seamless, and it even looks like the singer is singing the words in the repeated footage, until you see it for a second time in it's correct context. I think this is the only occasion where the audio track has been left intact, and a different piece of footage pasted over it.
|2F21||The Springfield Connection||
1) Marge chasing Snake through the bad neighbourhood:
(Marge corners Snake in an alleyway. He pulls out a flick-knife)
MARGE - "(nervously) Uh, I must warn you, um... Sometimes ordinary p-people t-t-they get a surge of adrenaline... (Snake goes to knife her. Marge gasps, grabs a dustbin (trashcan!) lid and knocks him unconscious) ... See!"
2) At the Springfield equivalent of Hendon, Chief Wiggum's pep talk:
WIGGUM - "Alright, you scrawny beanpoles. Becoming a cop is _not_ something that happens overnight. It takes one solid weekend of training to get that badge."
MAN - "Forget about the badge! When do we get the freakin' guns?!"
WIGGUM - "Hey, I told you, you don't get your gun until you tell me your name."
MAN - "I've had it up to here with your 'rules'! (walks off)"
The knife scene is looks unprofessionally edited and somewhat disjointed, all for the sake of protecting viewers from the sight of an animated knife. Even more hypocritically, a bit of this scene with a close up of Snake pulling the knife on Marge, is used as part of a montage of footage in the 'Springfield's Most Wanted' special, shown uncut by SKY. The second cut is simply ludicrous.
|2F31||A Star is Burns||
1) The clip from 'McBain: Let's Get Silly', after McBain tells a poor joke and then says "That's the joke.":
MAN IN AUDIENCE - "You suck, McBain"
(McBain pulls out a machine gun and fires into the audience.)
McBAIN - "Now, my Woody Allen impression... 'I'm a neurotic nerd who likes to sleep with little girls'..."
MAN IN AUDIENCE - "Hey, that really sucked."
(McBain pulls out a grenade and throws it into the audience.)
2) In Moe's 'Moe Better Booze' song, the final word is overdubbed with the sound of a cash register ringing and the theatre audience gasping:
MOE -"(sung)... Money gets you one more round, you're out on your ass."
Casual violence and child sex combined in one scene. It didn't stand a chance with the SKY censors did it? As for the overdub, it a fairly clever trick but the word 'ass' has been left in on other occasions so why bother? UNCUT BY THE BBC.
1) Krusty's Show, at the beginning of the episode:
KRUSTY - "It wasn't my fault, it was the Percodan. If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain. And now a word from our new sponsor... Percodan?! Aw, crap!"
A single word 'crap' cut - one of the features of seasons 6 and 7.
|2F33||Another Simpson Clip Show||
1) (Clip from 1F07) At the National Energy Convention:
(Homer chucks something at the heckler.)2) (Clip from 1F07) In the hotel room with Homer and Mindy:
HOMER - "Oh yeah, like you don't know. We're gonna have sex."
The first cut was a slightly differently edited repeat of the cut clip from 'The Last Temptation of Homer' which removes not only 'Bastard', but the surrounding phrases as well. However, the 'sex' line was uncut in SKY's showing of that episode, but removed this time around. UNCUT BY THE BBC.
