People Locators

Like other visual supports, a people locator helps your child anticipate who will be with her during given activities or times.

This lists the days of the week with pictures of people below them.

For example, when Julie comes home from school her dad is there on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and her mother is there on Fridays. On Thursdays her babysitter, Kristin, is there. A calendar telling Julie who will be at home when she gets there can help reduce her anxiety. It can also be used to show when there is a change.

This has a picture of a person above the picture symbol for soccer to indicate the person is doing that activity.  Another type of people locator can simply show where other family members are.

Some children are very aware of other family member's schedules and routines. If your child repeatedly asks where his brother is when he isn't at home according to his normal schedule, this type of visual support might be useful.
