Beta Test Patched to Version 1.46

Tonight, the Diablo II dev team added another new patch for the Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Beta test, bringing the game to version 1.46. This patch made only character-based changes, fixing some skill imbalances and implementing some improvements. See all of the details in our Beta Version History section.

Additional note: As of 9:00pm PT tonight, the Beta Realm seems to be working a bit funky -- you'd know this if you got the "No Realms Are Available Now" message. The Battle.Net team is probably just working on a few server-related issues, possibly involving the new patch.

Update: The Beta Realm is up and functioning just fine, now. We'll see all you beta testers on there!

US East Realm Problems

Blizzard is stating that the US East Realm is experiencing a few problems revolving around their ISP. Here's the post:
The U.S. East Battle.net and Diablo II Realm servers are currently experiencing intermittent connectivity. Symptoms include increased lag and [loss] of connection to Battle.net. This issue is with the ISP's network and is affecting various Internet servers. The ISP is working on the issue, and should have a resolution within a few hours. Thank you for your patience.

-The Battle.net Team

Beating Diablo

For those who have not yet had the chance to battle with the great pillar of red that is Diablo, we have a quick guide on the basics. The class-specific tips and observations are especially of note. Even if you've already defeated Diablo in some of the earlier modes, it may still be in your best interest to read up - as perhaps you weren't too efficient on your last rendezvous.

Lord of Destruction Beta Tester Diary

Loyal Diablo fan and a beta tester for the expansion, Taylor Wood (ChopShop), has sent in his thoughts on the beta's handling of skills and general gameplay. It can be read over at our Beta Diaries section.

While the entry itself tends to focus on the "nerfing" and balancing within the game, he does manage to describe his experience with the other aspects of the expansion (such as mercenaries) using his upper-level characters.

New Lord of Destruction Preview

GamersClick is running a six-day feature on RPGs called "RPG Week." Today, the Diablo II Expansion Set was featured in a preview by Tom Ohle. Obviously, he didn't get very far before making judgements, as the five screenshots posted are from early areas of Act I. It's an overall positive look at the Expansion by the standards of the Beta Test. Read the new preview at GamersClick.

Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Characters Guide Opens!

As you can see, we've added a large, new section to our Diablo II Expansion Set: Lord of Destruction coverage, a guide on the two new character classes in the add-on. Seek out this section of PlanetDiablo to find out about all 60 new skills for the Assassin and Druid (combined), as well as information on the character conversion process, and differences between Diablo II characters and Expansion characters. Read all and more in the new Characters section.

More Expansion Screenshots

Blizzard is treating us to yet another pair of Lord of Destruction Beta snapshots in what's been a rapid-fire time period for in-game images. You can catch all that and more over at Blizzard's Lord of Destruction area.

And if that's not enough to settle the juices, hit up our own expansion gallery.

New Fan Art

We have four new art pieces in our Fan Art gallery - with two of them from one of the Special Effects Costume Designers on last year's Diablo II TV ad, Tuck John Porter. Both of the works were concept art in the creation of the Sorceress and Necromancer costumes for the "Diablo II: It's Everywhere" ad. A real treat!

  • Sorceress
  • Necromancer

    Other Art:
  • Barbarian - (A Barbarian wielding a slick axe! By Ryan Linkson)
  • Diablo II Character Quasi-collage - (Michelangelo would be proud. By Wade Ryder)

    Thanks to all who submitted!

    The Phrozen Keep Interview

Today we interview Iowan and Phrozen from arguably the best Diablo modification resource on the Web, The Phrozen Keep. Both tell us just how they broke into the mod scene, how you can join in, and what their views are on the upcoming expansion.

    Werzion X Mod Update

Fusman of The Phrozen Keep (PlanetDiablo's center for Diablo series mods) let us know that he has updated his popular "Werzion X" mod for Diablo II. Here's the word on the changes:
"The mod is now more difficult. Tweaked all monster hitpoints, damage, walk speed, armor, block, resistance, missile damage and group sizes. Nerfed leach affixes just a tiny bit but life regeneration affixes get a slight boost. Resist penalties are now 30% in nightmare and 75% in hell. Plus some other difficulty stuff."
Find more information on the Werizon X mod, and download the new version at The Phrozen Keep.
