More Final Frontier!
08:41 | by Dark Youth
It seems Savants Final Frontier is not quite as final as we thought. He has been cooking a mixed pot at Estrella and has put more than enough work in to justify the release of Total Annihilation: Final Frontier Version 5.1. This time the changes are:
Added new sounds
Fixed the photon cannon on the BoP and the Hellhawk.
Ships now have similar top speeds within their class;
Fighters (11)
Heavy fighters and corvettes (8)
Frigates, destroyers & light cruisers (4)
Heavy cruisers, battlecruisers & battleships (3)
Numbers are for ARM craft.
CORE starships are a bit slower, while fighters are faster.
Refitted the Salvage corvettes with EMP turrets and gave them the ability to capture (thanks Burning Brick). Also enhanced their models.
Reduced size, cost and output of the O.R.C.'s to 2 fusion reactor equivelants instead of 3.
Fixed minor problems with some of the yards.
Replaced energy missiles on "Prowler" with regular missiles. Looks a lot better.
Increased all starship armour by 10%, 20% in the case of capital ships.
Reduced the armour on the ODS by 50%. Removed heavy laser and replaced with similar anti aircraft weapon to 2nd and 3rd turrets (pulse for ARM, laser for CORE).
Increased the firing rate on the "Mauler" and "Ravager". Reduced cost and build time by 40%. Also made shots more accurate.
Reduced damage from Heavy lasers by 20%.
AA weapons do more damage vs 2nd level craft. AA turrets now also fire at ground targets.
Changed the ARM gatling laser to a gatling gauss cannon.
Adjusted maximum build depth of 'orbital' units to 255 - they will now build on any stretch of water.
Renamed Flagships to 'communication ship' to prevent confusion. These are NOT combat vessels, ladies and gentlemen!
Gemini missile model for missile and Ifrit/BoP
A pile of balance modifications, a load of fixes and requested things is just about all this is, but then again, the pack is a lot better for them. Visit Estrella AGAIN for TA: Final Frontier, and hopefully this will be the last time I recommend you download it tonight. :p

Black & White Easter Eggs
Black & White Easter Eggs - For all your chocolate egg needs... Oh wait, they're not chocolate! Erm, right... Oh look *points upwards* a blimp! *sharp exit left*

Right in case you don't know, in the 'gaming industry', 'Easter Egg' is a term used to describe something put in a game by it's creators, but hidden away in obscure locations for bored players with too much time on their hands to stumble across
That snippet taken from the B&W; Easter Eggs info page. Your resident Easter Egg Hunter is BigFreak, and we'd like you all to submit any eggs that you've found that we haven't. Egggggscellent (you're fired! - Ed), now get to it!

Omega Design have released something for both unit makers, and unit fans in the last 24 hours. Zythe felt sorry for his Juggernaught, so its coming out to play, but its a rough little kiddy:

It is currently at Version 1.3 and I am sure that you budding unit makers out there will find this program of use. Fantastic work from a great group, check out Omega Design today!

We ARE going to WAR!
06:23 | by Dark Youth
Things are heating up around the Total Annihilation Gaming Battle League, and the Galactic War is coming very soon. This will signal the doubtless return of dozens of those who left at the death of the Boneyards! Heres what Cire had to say on the site:
First the Good news. The 2.3 server is now stable and functional. The admin client has begun being tested. Once it has been tested the client itself will goto closed beta testers. Approxamtly a week later the public will get thier hands on it.

Now that bad news. I have recived this weeks work schedule and it leaves little time for me to debug 2.3, so its at a stand still for a few days. I will however keep yas upto date as the the progress of 2.3, please stop harassing me and other GBL sysops, you only slow us by asking the same questions over and over.

I'll leave you with these words..."Prepare, for the war is about to start!"
Who knows, you may be seeing a preview of this awesome TA utility right here in the not too distant future. Gaming Battle League is a force to be reckoned with, be there when the fight begins.

Arcade Version 1.08 Released BigTime!
06:45 | by Dragon
Addicted to Diablo? Wiggy for Warcraft II? Red hot for Red Alert 2? Of course you are -- and GameSpy is here to scratch your itch. They're double plus pleased to announce the release of GameSpy Arcade version 1.08, which, along with some minor bug fixes, shakes the earth by adding support for some absolute classics: Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft II, Red Alert and Red Alert II, which join the proud ranks of over 200 other new and classic titles that Arcade supports.

They've also written up some guides to playing the games using Arcade, as they may launch a little differently than gamers are used to on other gaming services:

Diablo - Red Alert - Red Alert II - Starcraft - Warcraft II

Arcade's addition of support for these titles was based largely on feedback from their users, who crammed their mailboxes with letters asking them to enable them to play these games through Arcade. They worked long and hard to grant those requests. What can we say? They're givers.

To grab the full version of Arcade 1.08, users should head over to the GameSpy Arcade download page.

Existing users can upgrade simply by launching the software and following the auto-update prompts.
