Naturopathic medicine blends centuries-old natural, non-toxic therapies with current advances in the study of health and human systems. A Naturopathic Physician (ND) is a licensed primary care general practitioner trained as an expert in natural medicine. Naturopathic medicine concentrates on whole-patient wellness. The medicine is tailored to the patient and emphasizes prevention and self-care. Naturopathic medicine attempts to identify and treat the underlying cause of the patient's condition rather than focusing on symptomatic treatment. Naturopathic physicians cooperate with all other branches of medical science.

Naturopathic medicine has been scientifically validated, especially in the areas of clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, immunology and hydrotherapy. Naturopathic medicine also has an excellent safety record in states with review boards.

A personalized nutrition program is a cornerstone of naturopathic medicine. It refers to both the practice of using food to maintain health and the therapeutic use of food to treat illness. Scientific research has shown that many medical conditions can be treated as effectively with food and nutritional supplements as they can by other means, with fewer complications and side effects.

Sage Health Center has an on-staff Lifestyle Education Assistant who helps clarify steps in a patient's treatment plan. Sessions use visual aids and practical step-by-step approaches. Sessions can be individual or in a group.

Group session options include:

  • "Take Charge of Your Health." This on-going, six-week group session gives patients the most advanced clinical understanding of patterns that may be setting them up for health challenges. Participants learn how to fight: weight gain, fatigue, depression, allergies, blood sugar problems, inflamed joints and pain, recurrent colds and flu, and heart disease.

  • Cooking Classes are specialized courses designed as on-going support for: *Allergy challenges * Understanding healthy and dangerous fats and appropriate use * Whole food preparation without sugar and white flour, and * Learning how to use soy and tofu and the many benefits.

  • Detoxification. Understand why, what it is, and how to detoxify safely under a doctor's care.

These are just a few of our supportive courses for those trying to make long-term healthy changes. Click here for a schedule of upcoming nutrition classes and lectures, or email us.

Homeopathy.jpg (2119 bytes)

Homeopathy, a component of naturopathic medicine, is a powerful system of medicine that is more than 200 years old. This medical system uses highly diluted substances to cure illness. Homeopathic remedies act to enhance the body's innate immune response and rarely have side effects. Some conditions that do not respond well to conventional medicine will respond to homeopathic therapies.

Hydrotherapy.jpg (2094 bytes)

Hydrotherapy is the external application of water for the treatment of disease or the maintenance of health. Hydrotherapy is a series of hot and cool compresses applied to the chest, abdomen and back. This therapy has been used with great success for over 100 years in treating various conditions ranging from acute infections like colds or flu to chronic debilitating conditions such as arthritis, cancer and heart disease.

Acupuncture.jpg (1802 bytes)

For more than 3,000 years many cultures have benefited from acupuncture or Oriental Medicine, now recognized worldwide. Acupuncture restores the balance to the flow of energy throughout the body, thus restoring it to health. In acupuncture treatment, thin sterile needles (wires) are inserted at specific points on the body. These points are carefully selected according to the patient's signs and symptoms. Each treatment is tailored to the individual's needs.

Acupuncture can be used to treat conditions including gastrointestinal, urogenital, respiratory, gynecological and circulatory disorders, nervous system conditions, emotional and psychological disorders and musculoskeletal pain.

Botanical.jpg (2937 bytes)

Botanical medicine is the use of plants as medicine. Many plant substances are powerful medicines that are safe and effective when used properly. A resurgence of scientific research in Europe and Asia is demonstrating that some plant substances are superior to synthetic drugs in clinical conditions. Sage Health Center prepares personalized botanical formulas and homeopathic medicines.

Allergy.gif (2883 bytes)

This technique is a truly revolutionary system for dealing with allergies. It is a natural, drug-free, painless and non-invasive method that can be used safely on everyone--from a one-day-old infant to anyone of advanced age--to permanently eliminate allergies and symptoms arising from previous exposure to allergens and their allergic manifestations.

The initial diagnostic consultation uses applied kinesiology to determine which substances you are allergic. Treatment consists of activating a specific series of acupressure points.

Bowen.jpg (3672 bytes)

Sage Health Center offers the Bowen Therapeutic Technique. The  gentle yet powerful moves of the technique send a neurological impulse to the muscles and the brain which help realign and restore balance to the muscles, joints and nerves.

Colon.jpg (2207 bytes)

Colon Therapy, which is also offered by Sage Health Center, is the process of cleansing the colon of waste material through repeated, gentle flushing with filtered water. The therapy has helped to alleviate colon disorders. In addition, a series of colon therapy treatments, combined with a personalized detoxification program that includes diet, exercise and other therapies, may be helpful in treating a host of other conditions.

Cost.jpg (3361 bytes)

A natural approach to wellness reduces the incidence of high-cost, chronic conditions. Naturopathic physicians can offer low-cost alternatives compared to expensive high-tech procedures.
