here are some details on my homemade scrubber. sorry for the verbal
description. I don't have a drawing available.
- material - 1/4" acyrlic
- dump bucket = 20 long x 5 high x 16 wide
- dump bucket sits in a rectangular container with dims of 24 long x 7 high
x 18 wide
- the water dumps to this larger container and drains to the sump with 3
1/2" pipes
- the dump bucket pivot is a 1/2" pipe located on the bottom of the dump
bucket about 6" in from the back.
- screwed to the dump bucket is a piece of acyrlic on each side with 5
concave half circle openings the same OD as the 1/2" pipe. the type piece
sits on the floor of the larger container in the opposite direction with the
half circle openings facing up. This serves as a bearing that can be
adjusted back and forth horizontally to adjust the lever force around the
pivot point.
- about 6" from the back of the bucket is a wall 1" high that serves as the
water weight section to bring the bucket back to the up position. this is
supplemented with a 1" pipe filled with lead weights that is attached to the
back of the bucket.
- a 2" high stand of pvc is placed on the bottom of the large container
under the back of the bucket to act as the stop for the upright position. a
1 1/2" high stand is at the front of the dump bucket to act as a stop for
the down position. each stand has airconditioning foam placed on it to
muffle the load crash of acyrlic hitting pvc.
- the screen is 16 x 14 and consists of 2 pieces of plastic screening sewn
together so that the holes are in alternate patterns. this facilitates
scraping in that some algae has a strong hold to remain on the screen.
- there is a removable brace across the center of the long dimension of the
bottom container to minimize warping.
- there are partial covers sitting on the lip of the front and back parts of
the bottom container to contain splashing.
- water overflows tank into the water weight portion of the dump bucket and
then dumps into the sump every 30 seconds.
- lighting is 2 28 W power compacts with a 12 hour photoperiod.
Sorry about the rambling text, this is a tough description without a
drawing. Start asking questions if you wish to clarify my desciptions.
