Cap

One size fits most adults

Gauge: Rounds 1-3 = about 3 1/4”

To work dc dec: Yo, insert hook in the first indicated st and pull up a loop,

yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook in the next indicated st

and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, yo and pull through

all 3 remaining loops on hook

Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 7 more dc in the ring; join with

a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (8 dc)

Round 2: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, fpdc around the ch 3 of round 1; (dc

in the next dc, fpdc around the same dc) around; join with a sl st to the top

of the beginning ch 3. (16 sts)

Round 3: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the top of the next fpdc, fpdc

around the same fpdc; (dc in the next dc, dc in the top of the next fpdc, fpdc

around the same fpdc) 7 times; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning

ch 3. (24 sts)

Round 4: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the next dc, dc in the top of the

next fpdc, fpdc around the same fpdc; (dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc in the

top of the next fpdc, fpdc around the same fpdc) 7 times; join with a sl st to

the top of the beginning ch 3. (32 sts)

Round 5: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in each of the next 2 dc, dc in the

top of the next fpdc, fpdc around the same fpdc; (dc in each of the next 3

dc, dc in the top of the next fpdc, fpdc around the same fpdc) 7 times; join

with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (40 sts)

Round 6: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in each of the next 3 dc, dc in the

Round 19 (inner hat band): Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the back loop

only of each st around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (56

dc) Fasten off, leaving a 30” yarn tail for sewing.

Round 20: Join yarn with a sl st to any unworked front loop on round 19, sl

st loosely in the unworked front loop of each st around; join with a sl st to

the first sl st. Fasten off.

Thread yarn needle with yarn tail. Fold the inner hat band inside the hat and

loosely baste the top of row 19 to the bottom of row 18.

Cap peak

Holding 2 strands of yarn together, ch 11

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across; ch 1,

turn. (10 sc)

Row 2: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 8 sc, 2 sc in the last sc; ch

1, turn. (12 sc)

Row 3: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 10 sc, 2 sc in the last sc;

ch 1, turn. (14 sc)

Row 4: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 12 sc, 2 sc in the last sc;

ch 1, turn. (16 sc)

Row 5: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 14 sc, 2 sc in the last sc;

ch 1, turn. (18 sc)

Row 6: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 16 sc, 2 sc in the last sc;

ch 1, turn. (20 sc)

Row 7: 2 sc in the first sc, sc in each of the next 18 sc, 2 sc in the last sc;

ch 1, turn. (22 sc)

Row 8 (edging worked around 3 sides of the peak): Sc in the side of each

row, sc in the base of each foundation ch, sc in the other side of each row;

ch 1, turn. (24 sc)

underside of cap

Turn the cap upside down. Place the center of the peak over the center of a

panel formed between 2 fpdc’s. Sl st the unedged side of the peak (row 7) to

the coordinating sl st’s on round 20 of the hat. Fasten off. Tack the peak to

the cap with one stitch at the red dot. Weave in ends.


Scarf

Finished size: About 7 1/2” wide x 78’ long, including fringe.

Gauge: Rows 1-3 = about 7 1/2” x 2 1/4”

Pattern note: The “ch 2, turn” at the end of each row does not count as the

first dc of the next row.

With size I hook, ch 22

Row 1: Dc in the 3rd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across; ch 2,

turn. (20 dc)

Row 2: Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn. (20 dc)

Additional rows: Repeat row 2 until the scarf measures 72” long(or the

length desired), ending with an odd numbered row. Ch 1, turn at the end of

the last row.

Next row (back side of scarf): Sc in each dc across; ch 13, turn. (20 sc)

stout fringe

Stout fringe (front side of scarf): Sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in each

of the next 11 ch’s, sc in the first sc on the last row of the scarf, (ch 13, sl st

in the 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 11 ch’s, sc in the next sc on

the last row of the scarf) 19 times. Fasten off.

Other end

With the back side of the scarf facing you, join yarn with a sc in the first st

of the foundation ch, sc in each of the remaining 19 foundation ch’s across;

ch 13, turn. (20 sc)

Stout fringe: Work as for the stout fringe on the first end.
