The fire in College Building started in the evening of
Monday, 21 May 2001.
Everyone on the premises at the time of the fire was safely
evacuated and no one was hurt. The next day, three workers making the building safe were
injured but were later released from hospital.
About 20 per cent of the building is damaged, mainly by water. The affected areas are
parts of the administration and one academic department, the Department of Computing. None
of the Universitys 17 other buildings are damaged.
Staff and students have already returned to work in the undamaged parts of College
