CD Gift Basket

Materials

About 6 ounces of worsted weight acrylic yarn

Crochet hook size G or size needed for gauge

6 CDs

Yarn needle

Gauge: Rounds 1-3 of piece A = 3 1/2 "

Finished size of piece A should be exactly the size (or just slightly smaller) than a CD.

Piece A (back)

Make 6 of these

Ch 4, join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring

Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 11 more dc in the ring; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (12 dc)

Round 2: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same st as joining, work 2 dc in each remaining dc around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (24 dc)

Round 3: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, 2 dc in the next dc, (dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next dc) 11 times; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (36 dc)

Round 4: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the next dc, (dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in the next dc) 11 times; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (48 dc) Fasten off.

Piece B (front)

Make 6 of these

Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 15 more dc in the ring; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3; ch 1, turn. (16 dc)

Round 2: (Sc, trc) in each dc around; join with a sl st in the first sc; ch 1, turn. (32 sts)

Round 3: Sc in the first sc, ch 2, skip next trc, (sc in the next sc, ch 2, skip next trc) 15 times; join with a sl st in the first sc. (16 ch-2 spaces)

Round 4: Sl st into the first ch-2 sp, ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 2 more dc in the same ch-2 sp, (3 dc in the next ch-2 sp) 15 times, join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3; ch 1, turn. (48 dc)

Round 5: Sc in the first dc, trc in the next dc, (sc in the next dc, trc in the next dc) 23 times; join with a sl st in the first sc. Fasten off.

Assembly

Sides of basket (make 5)

With wrong sides held together, sc together a piece A and a piece B. Work 32 sc around the perimeter, then insert a CD and continue working a sc through both pieces of the last 16 sts to close; join with a sl st to the first sc. (48 sc) Fasten off.

Bottom of basket

With wrong sides held together, sc together a piece A and a piece B. Work 23 sc around the perimeter, 2 sc in the next sc, then insert a CD and continue working a sc through both pieces of the next 23 sc, 2 sc in the last sc. (50 sc) Do not fasten off.

Attaching sides to bottom

Continuing working on the bottom, sl st in each of the next 5 sc, attach the first side by holding back sides together and working a sl st through both the next 5 sc on the bottom and any 5 consecutive sc on the first side piece, * sl st in each of the next 5 sc on the bottom only, attach the next side by holding back sides together and working a sl st through both the next 5 sc on the bottom and any 5 consecutive sc on the next side piece.* Repeat from * to * 3 times or until all 5 side pieces have been attached to the bottom; join with a sl st to the first sl st on the bottom piece. (50 sl st's)

Connecting the sides together at the top

Round 1: Skip 10 sc on any side piece from where it was attached to the bottom, join yarn with a sc in the next sc, sc in each of the next 22 sc, (skip the next 10 sc on the next side piece, sc in the next sc on the next side piece, sc in each of the next 22 sc) 4 times; join with a sl st to the first sc. (115 sc)

Round 2: Sl st in each sc around; join with a sl st to the first sl st. (115 sl st's) Fasten off.

Attaching the sides to one another

Thread yarn needle with a 12" length of yarn. Sew together two side pieces through the next 5 sc below where the two side pieces are connected at the top. Repeat for all 4 remaining sides.

Reinforcing the sides

Attach yarn with a sl st to any st in a triangular hole at the bottom of the sides (where 2 side pieces are attached to the bottom), sl st in each sc around the triangle; join with a sl st to the first sl st; fasten off. (15 sl st's) Repeat in each of the other 4 triangular holes.
