Now on to the story...
The Mappy Mecca is dedicated to Namco's 1983 classic arcade game: Mappy! It casts you in the role of Mappy, a brave patrolmouse of the MicroPolice. Through a series of museum mazes, you must use trampolines and microwave doors to stay one step ahead of Goro and his troublesome hench-kitties. This classic is rarely found in contemporary arcades, but is available in a variety of emulated forms (including MAME, Windows and PlayStation).

Mappy News
January 2001 - A pair of notes... first, the sure thing: Mappy appears in Point Blank 3 for PlayStation, along with many other Nam-cameos. See a screenshot in the sequels section. Also, DMGIce has reported that Namco is fashioning a Namco Museum-type game for Game Boy Advance. Could this mean Mappy on Game Boy? I'll be booking long airline flights just to enjoy Mappy at 30,000 feet... UPDATE MAY 2001: Namco Museum for GBA does not appear to include Mappy (it does have Dig-Dug and Ms. Pac-Man). Hope for Namco Museum #2!

April 2000 - MAME reaches version 0.36 and now includes the rarely seen Mappy sequel, Hopping Mappy! In case you haven't tried the newest MAME, the ROMs now provide in-game tips if available. The tips for Mappy describe winning the bonus rounds and the not-so-infinite level structure.

late 1999 - DMGIce, a Game Boy fansite, reports that Mappy Land could be coming to Game Boy. Now, Mappy Land pretty much stinks, but maybe a new version would improve it... and hopefully come with the classic version too!

July 1999 - Electronic Gaming Monthly puts Mappy on a long list of games in possible development due to a Namco/Hasbro Interactive deal. The deal gives Hasbro Interactive the right to create modern versions of classic games, a la Frogger and Centipede. Games on the list include Pole Position, Mappy, Dragon Buster, Galaxian, Bosconian, Galaga and Rally-X. Let's hope these games come out better than the modernized Centipede.
