GameSpy Arcade Poker Updated Spiff | 5:05 | GameSpy News
If you're a frequent player of GameSpy Arcade Poker, you've no doubt noticed a few BIG changes to the game and its lobbies today. First up, we divided the lobby up into group rooms -- much like those you'll find in the other classic games areas of Arcade, like Spades, Hearts and Backgammon. We did this for a couple of reasons: 1) To allow tournament groups and leagues to organize their events without cluttering up the main lobby, and to make organizing events easier on everyone; 2) To give players who want a less hectic experience some less-populated areas in which to find and create games.
The other big change was to the Poker game itself. We tweaked the game's backend a bit to provide for greater flexibility for game hosts; now you can determine the minimum or maxmimum holdings a player must have before joining your game. Want to play some high stakes 5 card stud? Take advanatage of the billion dollar maximum, and keep out the small fries. Just want a friendly, budget game? Set the maximum low, and make the big fish swim in a larger pond. As a result of this new feature, you may find that you can't join a game. The solution? Scan the game titles in the server list, and find one with a limit that suits your budget -- or, better yet, start your own game!
As always, if you have any questions or comments about changes we're making to Arcade or our games, please let us know! Send e-mail to feedback@gamespyarcade.com, or post a comment to our forums.

Hellchick's Talkin' Trash Again Pappy-R | 20:12 | Action
This time it's The Ice Terminal that got ,b>Hellchick to spill her guts in an interview. Questions about her involvment in everything but Area 51 are in this one.
IceStorm:
Most people don't know this, but you're a very laid back person and seem to do your best to get along with everyone. Is this a character flaw or do you get paid to be nice? And where do I send the check to?
Hellchick: You were talking to me, right? Well, I try to be nice. I mean, you don't get far in this world if you're a jackass all the time, do you? But I have my moments. Mainly it's just trying to be professional, really. There are things I see that really irritate me, but I try to let it just go by. Things like arguing between the mod community and developers -- I see so little cooperation there, and that's unfortunate.

intensive applications -- and yet, the game performed
marvelously, even in light of its early test stage
context.

Famitsu has recently updated their sales page with details of the Dreamcast's and other consoles' sales from the week ending July 8th 2001. The stats show the PS2 and GameBoy Advance battling for gamers' money, with the Dreamcast still clinging onto third place. Could this be a sign that the DC is slowly losing ground to other consoles? PlayStation - 1,920
PlayStation 2 - 88,286
Dreamcast - 5,951

SegaNet And Earthlink Team Up Celeryface | 9:42 | Console
Gaming-Age has reported an announcement that Sega.com Inc. and Earthlink has reached a strategic agreement today, that will have Earthlink as the preferred ISP (Internet Service Provider) for Sega.com. With this announcement, all gamers will be able to use the features only found in SegaNet, beginning as early as today. Here is a little snip from the report:
"This agreement allows Sega.com to continue to offer high speed, low-latency gameplay while concentrating on building the best community and content for online console gamers," said Marc Connor, director of strategic partnerships & alliances, Sega.com. "EarthLink can provide the speed, reliability and customer service that gamers want to be competitive online."
"We're proud to welcome SegaNet's Internet access subscribers into the EarthLink family, and we're pleased to bring them the full line of EarthLink services and features, from the personal touch of our customer service representatives to the cutting-edge technology of broadband and wireless Internet access," said Cliff Bryant, director of acquisitions for EarthLink.
If you are already using the SegaNet service, you will be converted over to an Earthlink account and can still enjoy SegaNet for your $19.95 monthly fee.
An interesting statement was brought up from Gaming-Age's report, that "As new consoles come online later this year, Sega.com plans to open its high-speed network to a wider audience of online gamers."
Dungeon Siege Character Animations dan | 9:42 | RPG
Joe "thickpaint" Kresoja once again dropped by our forums to answer Valcrow's questions about character animations. Here's a snippet:
We get the animations in the game by exporting them with a plugin that one of our fine programmers Mike Biddlecombe made. Adding animation in the game once there done is a piece of cake. Of course the character needs to be templated in the gas file so it knows what and when to play what animation.

Phoenix Entertainment(tm) announced a revolutionary 3D game in development called The Underworld: Crime Does Pay(tm). The game is a fully 3D combination
real-time strategy game/first person shooter which includes significant
role playing game elements. It is the first title from Phoenix
Entertainment.
The Underworld: Crime Does Pay incorporates revolutionary 3D engine

bridge the three major genres of gameplay.

PlanetDungeonSiege: Model Library Created Guttyr | 8:40 | RPG
Valcrow, our resident 3D guru has created a Model Library here on PlanetDungeonSiege.
Dungeoneers needing some extra models for their siegelets, or just wanting to take a look at some wireframes while they are learning to model can find models to get started with in the Model Library. This section is devoted to user created models of all sorts and sizes for all your dungeoneering purposes and they're all free!
Although sparse at the moment, well OK, very sparse, I'm certain that this area will really pick up as we get closer to the release of DS. Valcrow has placed a shield in there to serve as an example.
And if you're ready to get in there and begin adding models then simply check out our model submission page.

Reviews on this book tell us that it goes into subjects that will no doubt be helpful to those of making modules for Neverwinter Nights as readers will discover everything that a role-playing title must have to succeed!
It is available at amazon.com if you can't find it in a local bookstore near you. Click here to check it out.

Friday is here once again. Unfortunately, I have stuff to do (other than gaming) this weekend. Apparently, it's important in real life to "pay bills" and "clean the house." My wife is very well up on these alien concepts, but it seems as though yours truly has been slacking off around the house... My punishment? A quick trip down to Orange County's perveyer of fine DVDs, of course! Mr.Ken Krane has it all, and I intend to buy up some great movies this weekend (Ok, so this ain't really punishment, but it does get me out of the house, and off EQ!). On the hit-list are Withnail & I, How to get Ahead in Advertising and the incredible Mr.Vampire! If your still still reading, have a nice weekend, and beware of the scary wives that force you to do crap!
