The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is located on the farthest eastern borders of the Arab World on the Arabian Gulf It stretches for a distance of about 64 km long It extends towards the interior for a distance exceeding 128 km long It has an extremely mountainous borderline with the Sultanate of Oman to the South and North east A number of islands in the Gulf's water belong to the emirate the most well known of which are the Bigger Tunb and lesser Tunb The area of the emirate is 168 Sq km which is equivalent to 2.2% of the country's total area excluding islands The emirate's population is 143334 persons in 1995

The city of Ras Al khaimah is the capital of the emirate is divided into two parts by a water gill named Khour Ras AlKhaimah The western part is known as the old Ras Al Khaiamh and comprises Ras Al Khaimah Museum and some of the governmental departments While the eastern part known as Al Nakheel comprises the Ruler's office governmental departments and commercial companies The two parts are connected via a large bridge built across Al Khour that facilitates traffic between them

the Remis district whose inhabitants have been working as fisherment for quite so long There is also the Digdaga district that is famous for its agricultural projects and houses the biggest pharmaceutical factory in the whole Gulf known as Gulphar Other important districts are Al Hamraniah which is an agricultural area containing RAS Al Khaimah International Airport Khaat area a tourist resort that is well renowned for its thermal springs and visited by tourists for treatment and Masafi district that is well known for its orchards and natural potable water

The present site of Ras Al Khaimah museum was originally a historical fortress of the eighteenth century used as residence for Ruling families The Museum exhibits a variety of rare relics and fossils of different historical eras There are human remnants dating back to 3000BC and relics of Shamal's human settlements
