Insider Magazine
Dustin: Rebelscum reader Ed Mizerek emailed us today to let everyone know he received the latest issue of the Star Wars Insider. As reported here at Starwars.com The latest Insider comes with two covers ( one on each side ) and is packed full of good articles, features and photos. Ed also mentioned that the Insider came with a promotional CD from WOTC with both Star Wars and non Star Wars demos on it. Email a friend this story

Probe Droid: Standard Vehicle Features
Mark: With a number of Star Wars vehicles coming out this year, and more sure to follow next, what feature would you like to see become standard for all future releases? Are lights and sound a must? Can you live without those exciting play features? Is an action figure imperative? Maybe you think the lowest possible price is the best way to go...? No matter what your preference, now's your chance to cast a vote and be heard. Look for the new Probe Droid ballot on the left of your screen and vote today! Email a friend this story

Carbon Freezing Chamber At Your Doorstep
Chris: We just got our first report of someone taking delivery of a Carbon Freezing Chamber. Rebelscum reader Brad had the following to say:

"Just a quick not that my Carbon Freeze Chamber playset arrived today. I ordered it yesterday (5/15) at around 8:00 am and it got here (Houston) this morning! On the return address label, it shows Wizards of the Coast to be located in Grand Prairie, TX. Maybe the fan club is on the right track."

That is a mighty fast turn around time there - I wouldn't expect it to be the norm. Probably helped that Brad lives in the same state the item shipped from. Email a friend this story

Fast food Premiums Never Die
Dave: Rebelscum reader Jere, wrote in with this:

“Artic Circle, a chain of hamburger restaurants in UT, WY, & ID, are now offering Star Wars Toys in their Kids Meals. The toys are the same ones that KFC were offering two years ago during their Episode 1 promotion.”

Sure, they aren’t new toys, but if you missed out on these the first time around, consider this your big chance!

Oklahoma City Collector's Club
Dave: Rebelscum reader Xwing 25 has this to say:

“A star wars collectors club of Oklahoma city has been created and is looking for some new members in the area. We are having one meeting a month, usually around the second week in the evening at a local spot. Any locals interested just e-mail xwing25@mmcable.com for more information.”

So there you have it. If you live in the area, you may want to check this out. These clubs are popping up everywhere, and no one can ever say anything bad about hanging with peers. Email a friend this story

The Kurosawa Connection
Chris: The Digital Bits has posted a nice review of Criterion's new edition of Akira Kurosawa's 1958 classic The Hidden Fortress - a DVD that is slated to hit stores May 22nd. It is pretty well known among fans that The Hidden Fortress was a heavy (and acknowledged) influence on a young George Lucas as he was penning the start of your favorite movie trilogy. Many similarities can be drawn between the two films. This new DVD even contains a short interview with Mr. Lucas where he offers his perspective on Akira Kurosawa's work.

If you've never seen The Hidden Fortress before, or are anxious to see it again, you won't do much better than a Criterion Collection DVD. Click here to pre-order at Amazon.com. Email a friend this story

Ultimart Offer Pit Droid 2-Packs
Jeremy: UPDATE: Ultimart has been in touch to say that due to the overwhelming response Popcorn, the supplier of the pit droid 2-packs, has run out of stock and their server has crashed due to the high traffic that this offer generated. Once the technical problems have been resolved Ultimart will be honouring orders on a "first-come first-served" basis. So if you got in early you are in luck.

Ultimart.com, the on-line toy traders fair run by collectors for collectors, now has the second wave of bonus pit droid 2-packs in stock for £13.00 to £16.00 each. Read on the find out how you can get a further reduction on these prices!

Similar to a collectors fair or mart, the Ultimart website has the advantage of being operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their simple-to-use interface helps the user search through listings of stocks and wares of 24 traders from USA, UK and Germany who ship worldwide. Ultimart.com has familiar, well known traders as well as some of the more niche retailers and that number is ever growing.

The obvious advantage of having many dealers in one place allows the collector to browse or use the powerful search function to view the +6000 items and compare the prices of similar or like items, to ensure that they receive the best possible deal.

Not only are they offering international shipping and secure credit card payment, but the chance to get a 10% discount for your first order from each and every dealer signed up to the plan. For an annual fee of UK£12.00/US$18.00, members can take advantage of a 10% discount off their first order from each dealer who has signed up to the collecting initiative (so get your credit cards at the ready). Every time another dealer signs up, the user gets another discount. Visit the Ultimart website for more information or contact info@ultimart.com. Email a friend this story

UK News: Non-Auction Pit Droid 2-Packs
Jeremy: Stephen e-mailed us to let you all know that Scotsman Models (+44 (0)141-572-0481) in Parnie Street, Glasgow in Scotland is selling a set of three (same figure and three different pit droids) for UK£50 (approx US$72). Scotsman Models will post internationally too (buyer pays P&P;). Stephen says "Compared to the outrageous prices that are being charged, on ebay, for a single two pack I was chuffed to get them at this price."

UPDATE: The helpful people at Ultimart have been doing your homework - they got in touch with Scotsman Models and checked up on the level of stocks. Shock result: Scotsman have sold out too, so there are no more to be had at this source either. However there is some good news - they are expecting more of the pit droid 2-packs in two weeks and Ultimart.com will be handling any on-line orders for them in future. You can stop calling Scotman Models now since it's well past 5 o'clock in the UK and the shop is closed. Email a friend this story
