Mighty fine page! The varmits I hunt in Alabama are wild hogs, up close and personal. Shoot many of them in briar thickets in close corners ...and we catch some with dogs. The wide open spaces that you show in your pics are most unlike south Alabama. I enjoyed the views. Here its
trees, trees, trees...but beautiful too. Stop by my site sometime for a glipse into life in the Horn Swamp, along the Alabama River. And keep tagging those varmits...

I live in the interior of Alaska and enjoy hunting varmints in the winter here. Mainly wolves and yotes. For most of my winter varmint hunting I use a Salvage BBL 112 single shot in 25-06. I just love that rifle and that cal. I think both are under rated. When the weather warms I switch to my Salvage BBL 110 .300 Win Mag because up here the animals bite back. You never know what you will call in. I do most of my hunting in winter though and it can be very demanding to remain still when its -40F. I usually wait until heavy snows hit then go to the ridges over looking the pipeline roads and catch the critters using them. They're lazy too and would rather use the roads also. This spring was a very mild one so there was a rabbit pop. explosion and the wolves and yotes pop. has exploded also. Anyone interested in coming to Alaska this winter just let me know, it would be great if someone that really knows how to call could come. Because my lips keep freezing to the call and those electric tapes don't work when it gets really cold, the tape just snaps.

I am a Member of The Varmint Hunters Association and Life member of the NRA. My web page, is like a short course in calling coyotes here in California, but the techniques should work most anywhere they are found. I also have a web pages on Reloading and Hunting Stories. I like to hunt, fish, play on the computer, and operate ham radio. I go deer hunting, coyote calling and trout fishing every chance I get and have gone to 3 of the last 4 Squirrel Wars up near Alturas CA. Great shooting there and it helps the farmers who are desperate for controlling the tremendous squirrel population. Also, since I started calling for coyotes near Antioch, CA on two large ranches, not a single cow or calf has been lost to depredation. I use a 17 Ackley Hornet, 17 Mach IV, and 223 Rem 700 PSS for squirrels and a 243 Win Sako Forester with "fitted neck" Shilen barrel for coyote and deer. Good Hunting from Varmint Al
Dick Hatfield, E-mail: email@example.com
I am retired and do a little ground squirrel hunting and coyote calling with my friend Al Harrel. I'm using a 17 Mach IV for most of the squirrel hunting. It is a Bullberry barrel on a Thompson Contender Carbine. That is good to about 150-200 yards. For longer range I use a Ruger 1 in the 223 caliber. Al is good at coyote calling and I have backed him up to catch the ones that sneak around behind. I use my deer rifle which is a Remington 7 in a 7-08. Dick Hatfield

I would like to extend an invitation to varmit hunters in southern CA to join me, or vice versa. Would like some help in night hunting. I primarily hunt prairie dogs and gophers in a 120-mile radius from my home, mostly on public land. I generally use a Ruger Number 1 single shot, heavy sporter weight, cal. .22-250; however, sometimes I use a McMillan custom bolt action single shot benchrest gun, also cal. .22-250. Great page!! Keep it up, I like the hunter links by state. Iam a member of the Varmint Hunters Association and the NRA. I love the shooting
sport of all kinds from Hand guns to machine guns. Once I got the first issue of the VHA Mag I was hooked on percision shooting. I reload and try to hunt, but this state has to many animal lovers in it and no one in my county will let you hunt. Looking for a experianced coyote shooter to show me how its done. Also looking for someone who would like to plan a PD hunting trip out west and go burn a couple thousand rounds off for a few days. Later Jon

Kind of surfed on really, have a Ruger#1 heavy barrel in .223 Remington that I popped . some PD in Montana in the fall of '96, but would like to seriously dent the coyoyte population around here but am not sure on what type of calls to use. Have and electronic caller I have used several time but with no success. Love long range shooting ever since I shot the M-14 at 500 yds. in Marine Corps boot camp. Hope to purchase a long range target rifle in the near future. Have just about narrowed it down to the Savage 110 Tactical Rifle, because of reports I have read, and the price is almost within my pocket book. Time will tell. Good page!

Hi there, I am from Winthrop, Minnesota and I am an avid varmint hunter. I always go to the Rosebud in South Dakota to turn a few of those pesky prarie pups inside out. I love to stop as many hearts in a day as i can while out there. My weapons of choice for all of my varmint hunting are my tremendousley accurate, Rem .222, my dads custom .17 (which to those doubters of this terrific little round, about the wind drift, let me assure you i am yet to really notice it!) The .17 really will rip prarie dogs to hell as well as any 220 swift or 22-250 ever has. Also I love shooting the 22-250 that sends my favorite ballistic tip lead sandwich right where I put it. I am also an avid fox hunter here around home. and there are plenty to go around, I love calling and the spot and stalk technique. Well, good hnting to ya all! Remember to "Paint the town red" next time you are there, thats what its all about!

Nice home page, I'm in the air force, I've been in souhtern N.M. for four years. Since moving here in in Sep94 I've really grown to liking
varmint hunting, my first year was un eventfull (really didn't know what I was doing). Met a guy who has lived here a long time and enjoys the sport. We have really built a strong friendship on our hunting trips, so far I've downed many coyotes, and two bobcats. My present varmint weapon is a custom AR-15 w/ a 26" 1x9 twist fluted hvybbl, freefloat handguard, flattop upper reciever, w/ 3.5x10x50 optic. load of choice is a handloaded 60 gr Hornady V-Max w/ 27gr. Hogden BLC-2. This combo works rather well. smallest gruop is .786" @100yds. Would really like to share tips, stories, and hunts/if your ever in southern N.M.

Greetings from Upstate New york! My primary hunting interests are coyote calling, fox, turkey, whitetail deer, squirrel. I have a club entitled the Bark at the Moon Coyote club that offers nice shirts and hats as well as hunting contests for regional hunters.
I have been hunting fox in the Livingston county area for the last ten years, and have done quite well on the reds. This year I purchased a
Ruger #1v in .223 for my daylight outings, what a great gun! My choice for night time hunting is my trusty (cheap) Marlin .22 mag., for $130 you cannot find a better shooting gun (I can actually say I have never missed a fox with this gun, long or short range). Both of these guns are topped with Leopuold 3-9 vari-x scopes, which seem to be perfect for both day and night. One problem I have had is getting gray fox in. I have been strictly searching for them for the last two years, and have only found red's. Everyone I know says the gray's are more aggressive towards calls, but I've yet to see one. If anyone in the area would like to help me out, or just want to swap stories/secrets, drop me an e-mail and I will get right back to you.

I am interested in long range shooting, I shoot at woodchucks and Crows. I use a .223 rem with a Choate Stock and Weaver T- 16. For longer ranges I use a Ruger Mark ll in the 243 with a BSA scope. I have access to about 2000 acres on fields in which I have permission to hunt. The tough part is finding fields with spots that you can shoot and over 350 yards. I have only a few spots for 450 + yard shots. Would be interested in hunting with any one who likes to shoot. My son who is my shooting partner now leaves for the Marines in August. Would also like to find another member of Varmint Hunters Ass. who would like to make it into the 500 yard club.

I have recently started getting back into coyote calling by taking my 12 year old son out and showing him the art. I shoot a .222 Remington 788 topped with a Weaver Challenger 3 x 9 scope. Calling is one of the most exciting and challenging forms of hunting. It also gets you easy access to private property that is otherwise closed to hunting. And more times than not, they will open their land to you for other types of hunting when they see you're a professional and respect their property rights.
Tim Thiel, E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
There's nothing like a good cold, snowy, calm morning laying in the fresh snow in full white camo watching it begin getting light in the east. You adjust your bipod to line up with two coyotes coming up the large draw looking for the source of your rabbit call.... You guessed it. I Iove coyote hunting! I mainly use a Rem. 700 BDL 22-250 with a stainless Shilen select barrel topped with a Leupold 4.5x 14 50mm. That scope really gathers light on those moon lit nights. (In ND we can hunt fox and coyote all night after Dec. 1st without the aid of artificial light). I use my 25-06 on real windy days or long shots. I also really get into prairie dog hunting, but I could go on and on....

I am from Mansfield,Ohio, currently living in Bellville. I am an avid varmint hunter, usually after ground hogs, crows, coyotes,a few fox, and even a feral cat or two(dozen). I have also taken up this year, the terribly exciting sport of Wild hog hunting, in Georgia, and am HOOKED!! I am a member of the Varmint Hunter Association, and the Thompson/Center Association. I hunt varmints with my Winchester HEavy Varminter, in 22-250, scoped with a Simmons .44 mag in 6-20X. I also use a Contender, in .223, Super 14inch, with Burris 2-7X. For wild hogs, I use the Conrtender with a Super 14 inch barrel, in 45-70, also with a 2-7X Burris..I occasionally use one of my Remington XP-100's for varmints, one is a 16.5 inch in .221 Fireball, and the other is a 14 inch, in .223. I recently wrote a hunt article, that was published in the last issue of ONE GOOD SHOT, on my hog hunt, in Georgia earlier this year. I'm new to coyote hunting, and have called in fox in years past. I'd like to go varmint hunting with some Ohio folks, so send me an e-mail if you're interested. I'm no expert, but can walk quietly, sit still, and hit what I aim for. I've been hunting both at night and during the day, using a Johnny
Stewart tape player. During the day I use either a 16-gauge Browning 5-shot (my Sweet Sixteen) or a 30-30 Winchester 94 with 55-grain
Remington Accelerator shells. The 30-30's a lot of lead for a coyote, but it's all I have for now, and that's why I use the Accelerators. At night I use the Sweet Sixteen.

I am a disabled Oklahoma varmint hunter. I am 22 years and love to shoot varmints! Varmint hunters rock! About six years ago I
had a motorcycle wreck that broke my neck and left me paralyzed from the mid chest down. I have always loved guns and shooting and when I had my wreck I thought my shooting days were over, but a friend helped me design a rifle rest to mount to my motorized wheelchair, and after that it was varmints beware! We drive five hours to western Oklahoma to shoot prairie dogs and walk out in our back yard to call crow, bobcat, and coyote. Varmint hunting is the greatest sport on earth! The weapons I use to hunt varmints with are Savage 112FVSS .22-250 with a Simmons AETEC 6.5-20x44 scope. This gun shot amazingly right out of the box! Has anyone else experienced this with this gun, if so email me. My other varmint rifle is a Remington 700BDL 6mm, it will reach out there and touch something! I have a Nikon 6-20x44 o it. This gun needed some stock work to become more accurate. I am thinking of cutting the barrel off and making a 6mm Ackley improved with an H-S Precision stock. Any opinions are welcome. My last varmint rifle is a Mini-14 .223. I am going to have the heavy barrel conversion done on this gun as well as a changeable barrel system in
.17 and .223. I am currently searching for a Remington or savage bolt action .223 for my next varmint rifle. So if anyone has one please let me know.

I'm a charter member of the VHA and enjoy sharing the outdoors with my sons and matching wits with Wile E. Coyote. Check out Varmint Hunter Magazine January 1998 Page 224 for an article that I sent in about a trip with with my sons. Let me know if you like it. I'm recently retired from a 20 year law enforcement career and have plenty of time to spend calling coyotes. We also enjoy doing the Prairie Dog thing in Western OK. I'm doing some experimenting with a Benelli M1 Super 90 with a Mechanical accuracy(Oklahoma City) ported choke tube. It groups well, but I hit a coyote twice at 30 yards and it ran off into the cedars. Maybe a switch to #4 buckshot from copper-plated BB's will solve that problem? Anybody have any ideas?

I am a recently retired biology professor in Tulsa, OK, who is starting to hunt varmints with my T/C .22 Hornet, Reminton 700V, and Reminton 700 BDL 6mm, which I am having accuracized. I have started with PDs in western Oklahoma but would like a partner with experience with crows, feral hogs too. Perhaps we can work something out together. It is safer and more fun to hunt with others, especially if they know what they are doing.

I just started varmint hunting not too long ago, sure I've done my share of critter shooting , but not with an actual "varmint rifle" My toy is a Savage 112FV .22-250 with a Tasco TR 4x16 scope. Its not the most expensive set up there is but I like it just the same. The only problem is that I dont know of too many good places to shoot other than going clear to Bend OR ... so if any of you know a good place to shoot varmints that are closer than a 5hr drive away, let know...or any other helpful advise that may help !

Since the state of Oregon offers some awesome opportunities for critters of all sizes to be taken, I trap, hunt, and fish anytime I can, for anything in season (legally of course). My preference is yotes, cats, and crows w/.22, .223, and 12 guage for tools of trade. Coons are ok but real greasy. I skin everything and eat crow and beaver (from trapline et al). Always lookin for a partner to go with and don't usually matter how far. Member of VHA, NRA, and Lifemember of NAHC, and employed by the USCG of USA and ABC of DEFG to HIJK in LMNOP. Ok maybe not the best sense of humor, but I love the outdoors.

My buddies and I are avid varmint hunters. We try to get out shooting every chance we can. We depend on the .223 caliber for most of our everyday shooting: but bring out the .220 swift, or the .243's for those windy occasions. Remember it's a matter of Windage and Elevation out there.

Hi I was surfing the web and i came upon your site and what motivated me to Mail you was your love for varminting.I am 14 and have been varminting since i was 5 i have pictures to back it up.I currently have 902 grackels (in the county I lived in there were 27 milllion grackles
estimation by the parks and wildlife)grackles and every summer i would rack up the count, under my belt at least 20 squirels and 3 coons. We have just recently moved from where we used to live and everytime we go back we end up spending one day at a grain field popping grackles at water holes and on top of grain stocks. And here where we moved there is no place to hunt the people are so Conservative in nature. Me and my father do this as a relaxing hobby we have recently started long range varminting. There is nothing like finding a water hole with 15 or so coons in it and blasting a way.If you know anyone that varmints in texas i would appreciate the info thanks.

I've been hunting groundhogs for the past couple of years and I'm wanting to get into hunting coyotes (got permission from a farm owner the other day). I use a Ithaca 6mm Rem bolt gun with handloaded 55gr Noslers. I also use a New England Firearms single shot .223 for some close in work. (Also with handloaded 55gr Noslers). Me and a buddy are considering a western dog town shoot and I would appriciate any info on this subject (ie Places, costs, who to contact, etc.). We're also looking to find hunting partners in the western end of Virginia (close to home), who are interested in some groundhog hunting.
Chris, Email: GRHTyson
I'm a 13 year old hunter named Chris. I hunt in Madison, Virginia near Albemarle. In my free time, I love to thin out the varmint population in Virginia. I use a .243 Rem. model 700. I love to hunt groundhogs but in the winter, when the groundhogs are hibernating, I hunt predators in Virginia. I've had good luck in calling foxes in but never tried to call very long. That's probably why I've never seen a live bobcat or coyote on our farm. I'm looking for a good place in central Virginia for bobcats and coyote. I'd love to talk to other varmint hunters from central Virginia and if you are one of them, E-mail me .

I am new to the varmit hunting deal. I have killed a lot of squirels with my pellet gun in the past, but have never been serious about the sport. I have heard about coyote hunting and it really sounds like fun, i know you can't do it with the ole .177 pellet, so i am thinking of getting a .223, sounds like an ok gun for the job. There are a couple of people that want to go find some coyotes with me, but i am not experienced yet so I think it would be a good idea to get some veteran help. If you know of anyone that will either give me some pointers, or let me use their land, I would like to hear about them. I am 17 now.

The navy keeps me pretty busy right now but would love to bust some varmints in eastern wa. so if your interested send me a line.
Thomas (Jerry) Huck, Email: email@example.com
My name is Thomas Jerry Huck, 58 yrs old. Washington born and lived here most of my life. Live in Goldendale area, hunt coyotes and greydiggers, deer, elk skunks, crows, snakes, just ordered the Johnny Stewart long range caller after watching a coyote come to a fawn bleat tape on a cassette player. Lots of deer on my property on Satus pass, but this year the fawns are disappearing at an alarming rate, and the coyote population is up as there is no price on the fur, no one is thinning them out. Also lots of greydiggers this year, lot of feed for them. I am a VHA member, also NRA, GOA, and JPFO member. Good hunting to you and keep up the good fight. You know, the one for our guns.

I have been out to hunt coyotes five times in the last five years and have taken three coyotes. I have a 220 swift single shot rifle with a 6.5 x 20 Leupold vari-Xlll scope. It has an Apex gain twist barrel which I broke in by shooting one hundred times, using a recommended shoot and clean procedure. Then I removed the barrel and had it gas nitrided. My best group to date is a half inch four shot goup at 100 yards. A Pacific Research stock holds the Mark X action and barrel. I do all my hunting in eastern Washington, around Naches (near my dads house in the Nile area)and Moses Lake. I would really like to find a way to contact farmers that would invite someone to hunt coyotes and or cougar on their land. I am also interested in hunting the north central and north eastern portions of the state as well.

Great Page! Have been a sage rat and prairie dog shooter for most of my 50 years. Hunt
sage rats in eastern Washington and central Oregon. I give the prairie dogs in Montana a real bad day. I have no problem with sitting my portable bench in the middle of a good prairie dog town and spending two or three days just burning the barrels out of my Remington 6mm and .223. Great page and glad I found it.

I live to hunt and have great permission to hunt lands in Southeast Washington for trophy white-tail deer, mule deer, upland birds, waterfowl, and coyotes. I primarily hunt the Snake River breaks for coyotes with my partner Brian Hickey. We've got experience in this area and get better at predator calling each trip. E-mail me for any info or just to discuss some hunting strategies.

My name is John Campbell of Campbell & Nix Custom Gun & Stockmaking of Richland, Wa. Your web site is excellent. I have been varmint hunting for over 35+ yrs. in the Eastern Wa area. Have lost count of the number of coyotes and chucks I have turned into a red mist. Right now I am shooting a 6 x 284 w/ 31 inch barrell, Canjar set trigger. (4 oz.) A Tasco world class 10 x 40 x 50 scope with 1/8th inch target dot. We shoot only shots over 300 yds. unless we are using .22 LR then we will shoot under 300 yds. I have found chucks near the Snake River are thining out from over hunting, but up around Ritzville they are starting to appear more often mainly because of restricted hunting. I have found if you ask permission, almost any farmer will let you hunt. For varmint hunting in this area please contact me. Phone: 509-946-5025. GOOD HUNTING! HAVE RIFLE WILL

I've been hunting deer and elk in eastern Washington for fifteen years. Just recently my
11-year-old son Martin and I got into varmint hunting. So far Martin has bagged a coyote (late August 1997). We're really getting into this! Martin shoots a Marlin 22 Magnum; I just got a Tikka (Sako) in 22-250, what a beauty, shoots straight as you please. We've found a couple of spots, mostly around Ephrata, but could sure use any advice any fellow varminters can give us about where are good sites and how best to obtain permission to hunt. And any stories would be welcome too!

I am new to varmint hunting and looking for places within the state of Washington to hunt
ground squirrels and other pests. I have a Ruger 10/22 sighted in at about 125 yards. I have heard guys at the rifle range talk about shooting ground squirrels for farmers and would like to give it a shot! Thanks for the great page!

I have been hunting coyotes, rockchucks, and rabbits in eastern Wasington for the last 11 years. For yote's and chucks, my weapon of choice is the 22-220 or .223 if its thick cover. One critter that has neglected to show its self in 11 years of calling, is the bobcat. I would love to bag one of these spotted kitties but I must be calling the wrong areas. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. For coyotes I mostly hunt near Davenport (calling) and also I think its a blast to use the spot and sneak technique in the rolling hills of the Palouse. Feel free to drop me an email for any advise, or maybe if you have a tip to bag one of those sly felines. Keep the coyotes rollin', chucks a poppin', and rabbits squealin'

If you hunt northeastern coyotes in the USA get in touch with me. Best coyote rifle 6mm/06 Wildcat or 243/06; with 85 grain bullets and heavier
-- it bucks the wind and holds its energy at ranges where others cartridges and smaller caliber's don't hold up.

I have a custom built 22-250 and several .22LR's with which I terrorize the local gopher population. I am new to Calgary having just moved here in the spring of 1997 so I am always interested in new hunting areas locally.

I use a 22-250, a .222 and a .22 rimfire to hunt coyotes and gophers anywhere in my area.
Ken Erickson, E-mail: email@example.com
I've recently moved to Calgary, Alberta, and would sure appreciate meeting a fellow varmint hunter. I probably shoot more foxes, coyotes and crows than anything else (excluding gophers). However, I hunt every kind of varmint that I can. Often I'll take a .22 lr, a centerfire, and a shotgun so that I can take advantage of any opportunities that come up. I've been a member of the The Varmint Hunters Associationfor a few years, and have been to all three Jamborees. The VHA was kind enough to publish an article of mine in one of their past issues called "Beavering". Thanks. Ken

My favorite pastime is shooting chucks and other predators with either a .22-250 (100- 300 yards), 6mm.-284 (300-600 yards) or a .338-416 Rigby Improved (600-1000 yards). My longest kill so far was a 20 pound raccoon at 875 yards. I have access to a 1000 yard range close to the U.S. border. Equipment wise, I use a military YAG laser rangefinder to determine distances as well as using a palm-top computer in order to dial-in the correct elevation setting on my scope for targets further than around 400 yards. Would like to meet or talk with other like-minded shooters; especially those who want to shoot in Quebec and perhaps brush up on their high school French.

I hunt wild bore by My Valmet M76 308W and crows and fox by my Ruger Km 77 mark II VT in 22-250. My best load for this rifle is: Case Norma, Primer CCI BR , Powder Vithavuory N140 36,5 gr., Sierra 55 gr.HPBT. i cronograph it at 1150 m/s and five shot in 1,5 cm @ 200 meters. You have the same rifle , what is your best load ? WW 760 is a good powder for 22-250? I send you a photo of my best wild bore of last year (110 KG).

Interesting Website, In NZ I shoot rabbits, hares, ferrits, possoms, goats and other introduced vermin. My firearms of choice are a savage .22/20G combination and a Ruger 10/22. (sometimes I use a parker hale silencer with the 10/22, silencers are legal in NZ however Pistols or any thing shorter than 765mm are not. (you win some you lose some Eh?)

Originally from Montana, but have lived here for 33yrs. I shoot both a 22/250 and a .220 Swift. Hunt mainly rabbits and hares [jacks] but will also
pick on crows and magpies if there's nothing else around. I'd love to hear from anybody who shares the love of varminting and .220 Swifts.

I do a range of hunting here in NZ. Most hunting can be done all year round. The forest here is Sub-tropical rain forest, and is run by the govt for recreational purposes. Most farmers once you get to know them are happy to let us hunt on their property, some of the best places we have, were found by accident, being in the wrong place at the right time. Being a city guy, I like to get out at least once a month.
Possums, Rabbits, Hares, Wallabies, Goats, Up close and personal with my Lever action, with cast 44/40 bullets, or a silenced .22 if around houses. Deer at least 5 species inc hybrids and Pigs all year round but great hunting in the Roar (April), 308 W. Game Birds, 6 week season.
Went hunting at a friends farm last Saturday morning shot 2 goats, Angora hybrids. Saw at a distance a red deer, but couldn't find him when we got closer. After dinner went spotlighting possums. Shot about 30-40 of the pests. Was back at home, at 1am the next morning. Not a bad day in all.
I'm a keen reloader, and member of several hunting clubs. Always interested in hearing from hunters in NZ, especially ones just starting out who would like to tag along as part of the team.
