Do de do de do.... What the heck!?!

Where are the millions of replies I was expecting?? Hmm....what to do...what to do...

I know!

Here is an interesting question for you all... What liquids can you use for a liquid cooling system where the liquid touches the chips directly? I am unsure about this as it is new to me.

P.S. Is there anyway to decorate the box like with neon lights or something inside it so it glows green or does something neat?

Who knows? I'm just an insane student bogged down with AP Calculus. Really fun...

Hey,

I haven't seen many P4 systems listed...why? The 400MHz bus alone should double the speed of any Athlon system (266 I believe?). 1.7GHz CPU's are only about $100 more than the 1.4 version - relatively nothing for a 2 year investment. Not to mention the faster PC800 ram and larger cache.

What am I missing? I know that if what I just said was true, then everyone would be suggesting them. Therefor, I must assume my reasoning is false. I am just at a loss to understand why.

Can someone set me straight?

Jim

what you are missing jim is that p4's suck!

pIII's are damn near outperforming the p4. p4 at this point is more of a business app chip.

I am wanting to build a computer for college. I would like to know what is the maximum CPU and maximum RAM speed possible from any configuration. I right now have it up to 2.266 Ghz by using a dual processing motherboard with 2 1.133 Ghz thunderbird P3's. I am unsure about DDR ram and what is possible nowadays.

My main concern is the cooling. I don't want to have to put my motherboard in my freezer just to keep it at 100 degrees Celcius...

My challenge to computer geeks everywhere! (geeks as a compliment) What is the fastest computer possible currently with a real life budget for this? Say 2-3 thousand depending on how crazy I am. This includes CPU, ram, graphics, etc.

I know this is off topic but what the heck. Check out the global warming thread that is now into a debate about state and federal gov'ts and whatnot. This is merely a fun challenge for all intellectuals, computer geniuses, and for the average joe.

Thank you and let the race begin!

Jesus..........do they come any geeker ?
Good luck outside of class........

Quite frankly Jim, The P4 sucks!!! Take a look at some benchmarks. Quite simply it does not perform well on a clockspeed basis compared to the Athlon, also its RDRAM is too expensive and does not perform well for its price.

Not to mention the designers of RDRAM, Rambus, is an evil corporation that just got sued by its own shareholders for fraud!!

All in all, AMD's Athlon is still better and it is much more cost effective.

Thanks for the responses guys and gals.

Yes Jim... I did consider a p4 for about .1 second and decided on dual p3's or amd's(if you can dual process amd's).

Basic truths are.....

1. DRONE IS MOOFIGHTERS!

2. P4'S SUCK!

I just want to know how a liquid cooling system works, what liquids do I use, and is it possible to have the liquid touch the chips to cool it more effectively.

Thanks for yall's help and visit

refer to my reply on the first page regarding dual-CPU athlon systems.

It can be done, but it ain't cheap.

for about $1500 you can have a liquid immersion fluid case that uses a non conducting oilbased solution. the hardrive and floppy and cdrom (any other removable media) are located "out of the case" and the MB and chip and other hardware are submerged...

these are the cases that are running current athlons at 2ghtz +

very expensive and mostly for psycho-geeks.

just an idea....don't get an amount of RAM below 512mb if you are useing a really fast proccessor......if possible, get the max Ram you can find..which I belive is 4gigabytes. Belive me....the more the merrier I am useing a 500mgtz Celeron with 64mgs RAM,which we upgraded to a total of 312,and blieve me ..that small boost helps out A LOT! If you can get 4gigs,and proccessor your talking about.well you should have on fast computer (by the way,if you can get a 7200rpm hardrive[I think that is the fastest]. it will be louder then average, but will speed up responce time....and yeah...if you do all this...get a REALLY good cooling system )

my 10 cents

As for the amount of memory you should have, I have heard that for Win9X that having more than 512MB gives the OS trouble and you really don't need more than 512MB for anything you could possibly do with a home system. The place you do need the most memory you can get is for computers that are servers that see a lot of transactions not for playing games and word processing.

Goto www.overclockers.com. they have MANY articles and guide for beginners for cooling and neon lights and other things to do with modding cases and overclocking. Lot's of good info. I also know of a guy who used Liguid Nitro to cool his cpu and another guy used Mineral Oil submersion with an Air-=Conditioner cooling the oil.
