RUSSIAN CRUISER MOSKVA HAS ARRIVED IN ITALY ON FRIENDLY VISIT

Friday Russian Guards missile cruiser Moskva tried up at the Italian port of Brindisi on the Adriatic.
Under a bilateral agreement on preventing collisions at sea, before entering the port of Brindisi, cruiser Moskva held joint exercises with the Italian frigate Aviere.
The Russian ship's friendly visit to Italy will last until September 10. At about the same time the Italian Vittorio Veneto cruiser is to pay a similar visit to the port of Novorossiysk (Black Sea), where it arrived on Friday. The exchange of Russian and Italian ships is being held within the framework of bilateral military contacts.
A Russian warship entered an Italian port for the last time in 1998 - it was large anti-boat ship Kerch which visited the Italian port of Messina (Sicily), when the 90th anniversary of the destructive earthquake was commemorated there.
In 1908, the seamen of the Russian military squadron who turned out to be at the Messina roadstead, were the first to come to the aid of the Messina residents. As a sign of gratitude to the Russian seamen a memorial plaque was put up in the port of Messina.
